Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council <br />Chambers, City Hall, on Monday, October 9, 1944, at 9 :15 P.M. with all members present except Councilmen Bishop, <br />Brannan and Heideman. President Wi'ezgodski presided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. <br />REPORT OF THE C9,1VITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Oct. 9, 1944 <br />Your Committee of the Whols to whom was referred "AN ORDINANCE REDUCING CERTAIN BUDGETARY ITEMS FOR THE YEAR 1944 <br />IN THE BUDGETS OF THE STREET DEPART! Motion carried. <br />Your Ordinance Committee to whom was referred the Street Department ordinance requesting the appropriation of $7500 <br />for the purpose of procuring equipment for the Street "Department, has investigated this ordinance and recommends its <br />passage for the following reason $4100 of the above amount is' proposed for the purchase of a loader which will facil <br />itate the work of the Street Department to the extent that it will relieve as high as fifteen men in the handling of <br />crushed stone, cinders, snow and other materials. Your committee recognizes that due to present labor shortage this <br />piece of equipment is necessary for the proper functioning of the Street Department. <br />An amount of $3400 is needed to procure a new street sweeper to replace equipment which is now thirteen years old and <br />which is practically obsolete. Your Committee recognizes that this equipment is also necessary for the proper func- <br />tioning of the Street Department and recommends the approval of its purchase. <br />J. III.
