Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in special session by order of the Mayor, in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Tuesday, August 27, 1940, at 8:23 P. M. with all members present. President McCarthy presided. SPECIAL CALL South Bend, Indiana August 27, 1940 TO THE CITY CLERK, PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF'THE COMMON COUNCIL, City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen:- You are hereby notified that under and by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of South Bend, in the State of Indiana, a special meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to meet at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P.M. on August 27th, 1.940, in the Council Chambers in said City, for the purpose of considering the following items: All ordinances governing budgetary items for the year 1941. Tax levy for the year 1941. New business presented for Council's consideration. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this notice on each and every member of the Common Council of said City and make due return of such service at said special meeting. J. COMMUNICATION August 26, 1940 1735 Bergan St. South Bend, Indiana Mr. George Hull, Councilman City of South Bend., Indiana Dear Sir and Councilman: . Wish to ask you the favor of presenting before the city council the need of an electric street light in the vicinity of College and Bergan Street intersection. Several minor accidents have occured here._as the streets are very dark, and because College street has a. dead end at Bergan. We'd greatly appreciate your consideration, and obliged. Sincerely yours Joseph Warwick S. J. Makielski Councilman Hull made a motion that the communication be referred to the Board of Works. Councilman Pulaski seconded the motion. Motion carried. COMMUNICATION City Clerk of South Bend, Dear Sir: River Park Civic Asso. Inc. Mishawaka, Ave., -20th St., South Bend, Indiana At a meeting August 19th of the River Park Civic Association Incorporated a resolution was adopted as follows: re- solved that all vacant houses and shacks in River Park that have been condemned as being unfit for human occupancy either be remodeled and put into livable condition or be torn down, thereby adding to the general appearance of the community. A copy of this resolution be sent to the proper officials of the city of South Bend urging action be taken at the and of the condemnation period. The above resolution is aimed at certain property owners who have built or have rented buildings for living quarter and who have not kept the same in a livable and presentable condition. The Association feels that it is unfair to the property owners who keep their homes and yards in good condition to have these condemned shacks in their neigh- borhood. Almost without exception the owners of the properties involved are not residents of. River Park and there- fore care little about the beauty of our district.
