M., with all members present and President TvlcCarthy presiding. Secty. <br />(.Attached Resolution) <br />Desiring to improve a serious traffic problem of our City, our membership in a recent meeting adopted the Resolution <br />below as follows: <br />WHEREAS: The,Northern Indiana Transit Co., Inc., having replaced all street cars with motor busses, and <br />WHEREAS: These busses load and unload passengers in the inner lane of traffic thereby not only congesting <br />-.'traffic but also endangering the lives and property of pedestrians and automobile owners. <br />THEREFORE 13E <br />IT RESOLVED:.. That the South Bend City Council be requested to pass an ordinance requiring the bus drivers to load <br />and unload passengers on corners after going through the intersections except at the regular bus stop <br />at the Court House and Interurban Station. <br />Copies be sent to Board of Public Safety, C.I.O. Council and to the Press. <br />Councilman Bishop made a motion that the communication be referred to the Streets, Alleys and Bridges Committee. <br />Councilman Pulaski seconded the motion. 11otion carried 9 ayes - 0 nays. <br />REPORT OF THE COMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: 7/8/40 <br />Your Special Committee to whom was referred an ordinance pertaining to the cultivation and use of land within the <br />boundaries of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and declaring; a nuisance. <br />Respectfully report,that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the report of the Special Committee . <br />shall be accepted and placed on file and the ordinance shall go to the Council unfavorably. <br />Geo. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. <br />T "potion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE PROHIMINC THE KEEPING OF BEES 1ITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />Councilman Bull made a motion that the ordinance go to the Committee of the Whole for a public hearing on July 22nd.' <br />Councilman Brannon seconded the motion. !fiotion carried. (This ordinance was given first and second reading). <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND .A?TP FIREMEN' S PENSIONS IN ACCORDANCE <br />WITH CHAPTER 31 OF THE ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEM1BLY OF INDIANA, 80TH, SESSION, 1937. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Richardson made a motion that <br />the ordinance be referred to the Committee of the Whole for public hearing on July 22nd. Councilman Brannon second- <br />ed the motion. Motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION <br />® RESOLUTION ALLOCATIITG THE SU;i OF Ti'1ENTY -FIVE THOUSAND ($25,000.00) FROM THE J' :IOUNT APPROPRIATED <br />FOR 71PA AND P1,11A IN T?IE 1940 BU! C=T U'_-TD-ER ACCOUNT NO. H -27, DEPARTT4ENT OF PUBLIC ?rTORKS TO SPECIAL <br />!':TPA ACCOUNT. <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Cotancil of the Cili- of South Bend, Indiana. <br />That the sum of Twenty -Five Thousand Dolllar ($25,000.00) be and the same is hereby allocated from Account No. H -27, <br />Department of Public Works in the 1940 Budget to Special I�PA account, and that this amount so allocated by the <br />Common Council may be used during the year 1940, for tl.e purchase of materials, labor and other items chargeable to <br />the various City I4PA projects, subject to the approval of the Board of Norks. The amount so allocated shall be <br />deducted from the amount of One Hundred Seventy -Seven Thousand, One Hundred Ninety Dollars ($177,190.00), appropri- <br />ated in the 1940 budget under Account H -27, Department of Public v'Vorks. <br />Councilman Bishop made a motion for the adoption of the Resolution.
