Be it remembered that on the 28-th day of August, 1939, at 12:20 P.M. the Common Council met in t <br />Council Chambers of the City Hall. All members were present. President McCarthy presided. <br />COMMUNICATIONS. <br />South 16end, Indiana. <br />August 26, 1939• <br />TO members of Council: — <br />Will your please try to reduce our taxes or keep them where they are, for <br />this year, as we --took a big raise in taxes last year, and now -you want to raise again this year. <br />What is the use to try Pnd buy a home, and then have the taxes so high you can't pay them, if we <br />can't pay them, you sell our property ?nd so re loose all that we have paid in our home all these <br />years. <br />Now if Misheraka can get their taxes cut why can't re, we surely have just as good men working on <br />our tax boards as they have, ^nd we do hope that you rill think of all the working people who are <br />trying to pay fot their own home and have a herd time making their payments and paying their taxe <br />and. upkeep of their home. <br />Out down on your budget if you h:,ve to ^nd keep our tax r;-te where it is, as its high enough for <br />the rages we are eprning tod^y. <br />Yours truly, <br />(15 signers) Tax Payers of South bend. <br />ication accented and placed on file. <br />PETITION. <br />To The City Council for the City of South -Oend, Indiana. <br />We, the undersigned petitioners, respectfully show to this Honorable Council that we are resident <br />householders of said city ofSouth lend, residing in the northeast section of South fiend. <br />ThFt we hereby petition the City Council to order the City Street Department to improve the public <br />alleyway located between Frances Street and Eddy Street which same leads off of Sorin, all IocFte� <br />with in the territoriFl limits of the city of South wend. <br />That the above —set out City improvements are vital to the public health, safety of the community <br />and are public necessities. <br />Wherefore, we have hereunto set our hands to the petition. <br />(14 signers) <br />A motion by Councilman Hull that this petition be referred to the Board of Works and seconded by <br />Councilman Bishop.
