REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 22nd, 1935 <br />MINUTES <br />Be it remembered.that the Common Council met in the Regular Session in the Council Chambers in <br />the City•Hall, Monday August 22nd, at the hour of 7:53 P. M. All members were present excel5t <br />Councilman James. President Hull presided. The reading of the minutes were dispensed with on <br />motion of Councilman Chambers, seconded by Councilman Pglicki. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />#325.3 <br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred an Ordinance amending Ordinance #2945 changing <br />the matter of -fees provided in section 3 from twenty -five dollars per quarter period ko twenty - <br />five dollars per annual period. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter end that in their opinion should be re- <br />ported favorably to the council. Goetz, Chairman <br />council e+ndordered placed on file. <br />REPORT <br />OF THE <br />COMMITTEE <br />OF THE WHOLE <br />To the <br />Common <br />Council of <br />the City of South Bend: <br />#3255 <br />Your Committees of the whole to whom was referred an Ordinance fixing the salaries and pro- <br />viding for paid vocations of certain City'officials and employees of the Municipal city of <br />South Bend, Indiana, and repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict there- <br />with. <br />Respectfully repok that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion should be <br />reported favorably to the Council. Goetz, Chairman. <br />The report was accepted by the Council and ordered placed on file. <br />COMMUNICATIONS: <br />A resolution from the South Bend Industrial Union Council was read requesting that they go <br />on record as opposing any reduction in salaries, or any reduction in personnel in the Police, <br />Fire and Electrical Departments of this City. <br />Councilman Kerner moved that said be placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />A letter was read from the St. Joseph County Building trades Council requesting the Common <br />Council to ignore any attempt that may be made, to reduce the wages of the Policemen, Firemen <br />and Electrical "Department, of the City of South Bend, Ind2na.. <br />Councilman fish moved that said be placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />A resolution from the United Electrical Radio & Machine Workers of America. Local #917•- C.I.0. <br />wws read urging the Common Council of the City of South Bend to take steps toward leasing or <br />constructing electric plants and that they submit this resolution to the voters 'at this coming <br />election. <br />Councilman Chambers moved that said be referred to the Ways & Means Committee. Council -nan <br />Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />PETITION: <br />T`0 HONORABLE COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH BEND. <br />August 5, 1935 <br />We, the undersigned, comprising all the major taxicab companies of the City of South Bend <br />petition for en alteration in the now existing Taxicab Ordinance Section 13, Par. 4 so that <br />the maximum shall be not more than 25¢ for the first quarter mile or e. fraction thereof. <br />Bert Lin <br />Indiana Cab Uompany <br />Otto Entzian pres. <br />outh Bend Cab Company <br />A. However we are conceiving a, plan which we feel will <br />materially invreast the number of taxicabs riders. <br />Economic conditions have played havoc with our business, We are now going to exert a concerted <br />effort to regain some of the ground that we have lost. We need your help to the extent out - <br />lined above. In siding us you will necesseTy benefit our drivers whose pay is directly depe6 d- <br />ent upon the number of riders.
