REGULAR MEETING MAY 10th, 1937 a a" <br />MINUTES _ <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the <br />Regular Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening, May 10th, 1937, at <br />the hour of 7:45 P. M. All members were present. President Fish presided. Councilmen Hull <br />moved that the reading of the minutes for the last meeting be dispensed with. Co-inciiman Goetz <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />COMAxl?NICATIONS: <br />C I T Y O F C L E V E L A N D <br />OFFICE OF THE COUNCIL <br />216 City Hall <br />May 5, 1937 <br />The Honorable City Council <br />City Hall <br />Gentlemen: <br />On Mary 3, 1937, *e addressed a letter to the City Councils of several hundred cities <br />of the United States advising them that we had adopted a resolution memorializing Congress to <br />enact the "United. States Housing Act of 193711 being S 1685 and HB 5033. We requested that <br />your honorable body do likewise end ask your Senators and Representatives to support this worth - <br />while measure. <br />The response has been most gratifying. Many cities endorsed the measure and in strong <br />language urg.ed%the President, their Senators and Dongressmen to support the bill. To date I have <br />not been informed whether or not your body has endorsed the bill. I would appreciate it, there- <br />fore, if:you would advise me of the action taken by your city council. <br />If you have not yet signigied your support of this measure, we would be grateful to <br />yo if you would do so now. This legislation is absolutely essential if me ere to improve the <br />housing conditions of the low— income group of the population of our American cities end if we <br />a rec=to eliminate the expensive and socially undesirable slum areas which blight so many of our <br />cit ies. <br />Won't you join with those of us who have already petitioned Congress to enact this <br />worthwhile measure? <br />Thanking_ you, I remain, <br />Very truly yours, <br />Ernest J.
