REGULAR MEETING <br />MINUTES - <br />JULY <br />Be it remembered-thet-the-Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the <br />Regular Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening, July 27th, 1936, at <br />81 =00 P. M. All members-were present. President Fish presided. Councilman Hull moved that the <br />reading of the minutes for the last meeting be dispensed with. Co-.ancilman Chamberw seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />CERTIFICATION OF POSTING NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS <br />In the mutter determining Additional 'Appropriations for extra funds to purchase an extension <br />ladder for the Fire Department; to employ an enspector for the balance of the year 1936 for the <br />Building Department; to discharge a judgment and Court Costs rendered against --the City in favor <br />of the Henry Eckler Manufacturing Co. <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />July 28th, 1936 <br />I. Mary B.-L. laylor, City Clerk of the City of South Bend., Indians, do hereby certify that a <br />copy of the attached notice was published in the South Bend Tribune and the South Bend News - <br />Times, two daily newspapers, on the 17th and 24th day of July, 1936, both published in the City <br />of South Bend, Ind.lana, also that I have posted notices in the following places: to -wit: <br />In the Corridor of the City Hall, South Bend, Indiana <br />In the Corridor of the Court House, South Bend, Indiana <br />In the alley in the rear of the Court House, South Bend, <br />places in said City. <br />Indiana, all being public <br />In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Seal of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, this 28th dry of July, 1936. <br />Mar B. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: #3176 <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of.the Whole.to. whom was referred An Ordinance appropriating the sum of <br />$400.00 from the General Fund of the City of South Bend to Account Numbered N -2 in the Building <br />Department under the Board.of Public Works for the employ0ent of an inspector for the balance• <br />of the year 1936. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion should be re- <br />Porte favorable. $eo. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: #3177 <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred An Ordinance Eppropriating the sum of 1750. <br />from the General Fund of the City of South Bend to account #Q -16 in the Fire Department, the <br />same being the account for motor Equipment, for the purchase of a new extension ladder. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the mutter and that in their opinion should be re- <br />ported favorable. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: #3178 <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of the whole to whom was referred an Ordinance appropriating-the , Sum of <br />$1145,99 from. :the _ Generel Fund. of the City of South Bend to account 0 -11 -A under the Controller <br />Office for the discharge of a judgement and-court costs rendered against the City and in favor <br />of the Henry Eckler Manufacturing Co. <br />Respectfhly- report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion should be re- <br />ported favorable. Motion carried. <br />COISfUNI CATION : <br />A letter and affirmation from the State Board of Tax Commissioners were read in repard to <br />Ordinance #3162 for additional appropriations in the §um of $100.00. <br />Councilmen Chambers moved said bommunication be accepted and placed on file. Councilmen•Reamuss <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />PETITION: <br />STATE OF: ",INDIANA PETITION TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />SS: INDIANA, BY THE TOWN OF ROSELAND AND CERTAIN TOWNSHIPS <br />ST. JOSEPH COUNTY DESIRING TO CO- OPERATE IN THE PURCHASE AND MAINTENANCE <br />OF FIRE FIGHTING APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT <br />Whereas it becomes necessary to have fire protection in the outlying districts-and rural <br />communities adjacent to the City limits of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and such out -lying <br />districts or sections cannot maintain an adequate fire fighting system, and <br />Whereas the Legisleture in 1927 passed a. law whereby the Common Council of any city and the <br />proper euth6rities of any tornship in which said. city is located or in any townships adjoining <br />the township in-which said city is located is authorized to co-operate-with the proper author- <br />ities of any such city in the purchase, maintenance and up -keep of such fire fighting apperatus <br />end equipment and equipment as may be deemed necessary to afford the requisite fire protection <br />to such city and the townships and <br />Whereas said law provides that the trustees of any two or more townships may unite in the <br />joint purchase of fire fighting and extinguishing tend apparatus and equipment, and <br />Whereas the proper officials_ of the various townships hereinafter enumerated either in which <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana, or in the Townships contiguous to the to�rnship in which the City <br />of South Bend, Indiare, is located-believp that -the better protection can be procured by co- opera <br />ing. -with the City of South Bend, Indiana, in the purchase, maintenance, up -keep of the .fire fight <br />ing apparatus and equipment then they could do it either separately or jointly, believes they <br />should file with said Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, a petition under this <br />lew and work out, l f possible, a co�-opere.tive system of fire protection. <br />
