<br />Be it Remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, metiin the
<br />Regular Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening September 10th, 3**
<br />1931, at the hour of 8::00 o'clock P. M. All Members present except Councilmen Hu11,Rokop;
<br />and Grzeskowiak. President Nelson presided. The Minutes of the two previous meetingswere read
<br />and tbn Motion of Councilman Hiss were accepted as read. Motion carried.

<br />Dear Miss Monroe: I have your letter of August 28. At the close of the last hearing in the gas
<br />rate cases, the attorneys representing the parties in interest requested an opportunity for
<br />oral a& argument and also requested an opporunity to submit briefs.
<br />To date, the attorneys have not been able to arrange a date for the oral argument , however
<br />however, it is the hope of the Commission that the attorneys x. can agree upon a date in the very
<br />near future when the oral argument may be had and the briefs submitted.
<br />No,action can be taken by the Commission in these cases until after the arguments are made
<br />and briefs presented, except that there might be a possibility of arriving at an adjustment
<br />of rates by agreement. Very truly; yours, Moie Cook, Commissioner.
<br />After a general d9scussion of this subject, Councilman Hiss stated that he would like to make a
<br />motion that the Commoj Council go on record as being in favor of a reduction in gas` rates to
<br />the citizens of South Bend, Indiana. Councilman Altfeld makes a Motion that said Communication
<br />be referred to the City Attorney. Motif carried.'

<br />The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on
<br />Motion of Councilman Jaworski was referred to the Committee of the Whole,, also that a Public
<br />Hearing be held September 24th, 1934 at 7 :30 o'clock P.' M. Motion carried.'

<br />On account of the recent ruling from Washington that no person can hold a position with the
<br />Home Owners' Loan Corporation who holds any public office, or who is a candidate for office, I
<br />hereby tender my resignation as City Councilman for the City of South Bend, Indiana, effective

<br />On Motion of Councilman Altfeld the Resignation was accepted. Motion carried.

<br />In The Utility Committee the adjustment of gas rated is now up to the Public Service
<br />Commission, awaiting the eonvendiewe of the attorneys to arrange the date for their oral
<br />replies. It is my person opinion that with the information .on. file the X Commission should

<br />e able to render a x verdict in a short time.
