(Continued from page 180) <br />aright he earned in the baptism of blood upon the battlefields of the Revolutionary Par; and <br />WHEREAS, it is but fitting thct proper reco,nition should be given to the memory of,.. <br />Brigadier General Theddeus Kosciuszko whose illustrious service in the war for American <br />independence is well known to ell who are familiar with our history, Now Therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVER -�by the Common Council of the City of South Bend and State of Indiana, that <br />the Mayor of the City of South Bend, end State of Indiana, is hereby authorized to issue h °I <br />a proelamition calling upon the Cit* officials to display the United States flag on the City <br />building, and the people of the City of South Bend to display the flag at their homes or <br />other suitable places, on October 13, 1933, in honor -of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary <br />of naturalization as an American Citizen and elevation to rank of Brigadier General of the <br />Continental Army of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, Revolutionary star Hero, <br />SECTION 2. That on October 13, 1933, shall be designated end known as Brigadier General j <br />j Thaddeus Kosciuszko Naturalization Day and that the -Mayor of the City of- South Bend is <br />urged to request its observance as provided in this resolution. <br />SECTION 3. That there is hereby established a commission to be known as the South Bend <br />General Kosciuszko Sesquicentenniel- Commission (hereinafter referred to es the Commission) and <br />to be composed of ten commissioners ss.follows :. Eight persons to be appointed by the Mayor of <br />the City of South Bend, two by the President of the Common Council of the Cityrof South Bend. <br />JAny vacancy in the office of a commissioners shall be filled in the same manne -r as the <br />original appointment. The Commission shall select a chairman from among i'ts� members. <br />SECTION 4. The commission is authorized to arrange an appropriate observance and celebration tt <br />take place in the month of October, 1933, of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of <br />naturalization as an American Citizen end.eleva.tion to rank of Brigadier General of Thaddeus <br />j, Kosciuszko, Revolutionary War Hero,.and to participate, on behalf of the city of South Bend, <br />in such manner a.s,it deems advisable, in any other observance or celebration of -such anniversary <br />which may be held in the City of South Bend during the year 1933. <br />j SECTION 5. The commission may also create from its own membership an executive committee of <br />j three which shall exercise such powers and functions within the purview of this - resolution as ma; <br />be authorized by the Commission. <br />SECTION 6. The commission is further authorized— To receive,solicit, and collect-funds and <br />pledges to cover the expense of-said General Kosciuszko's Celebration Day and to pay out the <br />same upon properly receipted vouchers to persons entitled to same. .And to exercise such powers <br />and functions as are necessary.to carry out the -purposes of this resolution. <br />j SECTION 7. The commission shall cease and terminate January 1, 1934. <br />On Motion of Councilman Grzeskowiek the Resolution was adopted.
