WHEREAS, on October 13th, 1933, will occur the one hundred and fifieth anniversary of the
<br />naturalization as an American citizen of Brigadier General Thaddeus Koscuszko, a
<br />hero of the Revolutionary War.
<br />WHEREAS, the service rendered by him was of great value and assistance to the cause of
<br />American Independence and -of such high importance that on October 13th. 1783 he was,,
<br />appointed Brevet Brigadier General of the Continental Army, and was granted him,
<br />naturalization as an American citizen."
<br />WHEREAS, it is but fitting that proper recognition should be given to the memory of Brigadier
<br />General Thaddeus Koaciuszko whose illustrious service in the war for American Indepe
<br />is well known to all who are fimiliar with our history, therefore
<br />SECTION 1:' Be it resolved, by the Common Council of the city of South Bend and Stateof "
<br />Indiana, That the Common Council of the City'-of South Bend, and State of-Indiana
<br />hereby respectfully requests and urges His Excellency President of the United States,
<br />Members of the House of Representatives and Senators from the State of Indiana be
<br />.authorize to respectfully memorialize, the United States Congress to enact legislatio
<br />which will provide for the effective carrying out of-the provisions of the said bills
<br />whereby the Postmaster General would be authorized and directed to issue a special
<br />series of postage stamps of the denomination of 3 cents, of such design and for such
<br />period as he may determine, commemorative of the one hundred_ and f if ieth anniversary
<br />of the naturalization as an American citizen and appointment of Thaddeus Kosciuszko
<br />as. Brevet Brigadier General of the Continental Army, on October 13, 1783.
<br />Section 2: That a copy of this resolution to be sent to the President of the United States,
<br />Vice - President of the X United States, Speaker of the House of Representatives and to
<br />each United States Senator and Representative in Congress from Indiana.

<br />from the Water Works General Fund of the City of Bend, Indiana inthe said sum of Elevfn Hundr
