T ' <br />MEETING. <br />MINUTES. <br />Be it Remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, State of Indiana, met <br />in the Regular Session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, Monday evening,`June 13th, 19'2v <br />at the Hour of 8 :05 o'clock P.' M.2 All zNz Members present.'President Nelson presided. The <br />Minutes of the two previous meetings were read and on Motion of Councilman Hull were referred • <br />to the Commitee on the Inspection and Supervision of Minutes.' Motion carried. <br />COMMUNIOATIONM. <br />City of South Bend Indiana <br />Office of the Mayor <br />William R: Hinkle Mayor_ June 13, 1932. <br />Honorable Memaersr of Common Council , <br />-:City of South Bend, Indiana.' <br />Gentlemen: Referring to recent ordinances and resolutions passed by your honorable body which N1 <br />effeck salaries and personnel of the different departments under the jurisdiction of the Board <br />of Public Works, I wish to refer, herewith, a letter which I receiavdd from the Board of Publ c s, <br />Works by its president, George A.' Schock, in which they state they are complying with the Council's <br />recommendations and have adopted them with a few asap exceptions which are set forth in detai <br />in the attached communication.' <br />All of which I, hereby approve and trust will be favorable to your honorable body. Hinkle, <br />Nayor of the City of South Bend, <br />South Bens Indiana.' • <br />Dear Sir:- 'Pursuant to your request, we wish to advise that the Board has had under consi derat on <br />since their enaoytments the ordinances and resolutions passed by the Common Counoilmof the Oit3. <br />of South Bend which affect the salary and personnel of the different departments under our,. <br />judrisdictiozi,'and we wish to advise that the Council's recommendations have been adopted with' <br />the jollowaing exceptions:- <br />he recommendations of the Common Council a was that we dispense with the services of f!�v <br />men in the Engineering Department:' Through the assistance of Mr' Wray, weIhave been able to <br />save the salary of six men im this particular department by staggering employment, and'unde-r t e- <br />present arrangement, this department has but one clerk, one assistant engineer, anc od man. <br />In the case of the rod man and assistant engineer, two men in each position are ke the <br />payroll and they alternate, working two weeks on and two weeks off.' <br />The recommendation of the Council was that a clerk be eliminated in the Board of Works: • <br />We have gone into this matter very thoroughly, ad find that it is an impossibility for this <br />office to be conducted by the Clerk,of the $card alone: We have, however, reduced r the salary x <br />of the assistant clerk from $1206'00 to $1001',00 per month and trust that this change °will meet <br />with your approval as well as the Council's:' <br />f <br />
