<br />Honorable Members of the Common Council, City of South Bend, Indiana:'
<br />Gentlemen: I have called a spec&&l hieeting cf your honorable body to take action on daylight
<br />savings time to avoid confusion of time, during the period given in the call, which will
<br />naturally - follow if the city remains on standard time while other d important institutions of
<br />our city are operating on daylight savings time. Very truly.yours, W. R.' Hinkle, Mayor
<br />On Motion of Councilman Altfeld the Communication was accepted and ordered to be placed on

<br />RESOLUTION. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN GEC. F. HULL.
<br />WHEREAS, practtically all major industries and business establishments in the City of
<br />South Bend have adopted or expressed their..-.intention of adopting a daylight savings time
<br />zsd schedule; and -
<br />WHEREAS, the claim is made that such change from standard to so- termed fast time becomes
<br />necessary because advanced time, being in operation mall leading cities from New York to
<br />Chicago and in may surrounding cities and towns, causes inconvenience and loss to South Bend:,
<br />in abbusiness way; and
<br />WHEREAS, confusion and inconavenience will become widespread in the City affecting
<br />innumerable persons and interests unless the time by official action is made uniform concerning
<br />all city activities;
<br />NOW,THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved, declared and ordered by'_sthe Common Council of the Oil
<br />of South Bend, Indiana, that the, standard time throughout said city, beginning at: the hour of
<br />midnight of April 241 1932, and ending at the hour of midnight of October 1, 1932, shall be
<br />that of the 75th Meridian of longitude west from Greenwich, known as eastern standard time;
<br />that the clocks of . the Municipal offices, at such hour of midnight of April 24, 1932, be
<br />advanced one hour to correspond with eastern standard time for the period herein indicated and
<br />that Municipal offices and all legal or official proceedings of the City of South Bend shall be
<br />conducted thereby -and when an act ;�h.all be done .or performed within. a prescribed time it shall
<br />'be done avcprding:_•.td thy,. -:time, herein designated:
<br />fn Councilman Hull makes a Motion -to adopt said Resolution, which was seconded by Councilman
<br />Altfeld to adopt the Resolution unanimously . Motion maltzd carried and the Resolution was
<br />adopted.'
<br />On Motion of Councilman Hull the Council adjourned at t 12:05 Rx o'clock P. M.` Motion:
