<br />RESOLUTION as was Introduced by Councilman:-- JULIUS ALTFELD, on JULY 27th, 1931:
<br />WHEREAS, The year 1932 is the two hundredth annoversary of .the birth of George Washington, idt
<br />the commander -in -chief of the American army of the revolution, president of the convention
<br />which framed the constitution of the United States, the first President of the United States,
<br />whose example of unselfishmatzial patriotism, wise leadership and devotion to the principles
<br />of freedom, justice and progress, are a permanent and essential forsdoe im American klife; and.
<br />WHEREAS The congress of the United States has created a United States commission, and the
<br />general' assembly of the State of Indiana m Indiana George Washington Bioentenary Commission,
<br />which United States Commission has requtstdd each of the states in the Union to create state
<br />commissions for the obserance of this_iortant anniversary, and that the Indiana George
<br />Washington Bioentenary0ommission will request all the towns and cities in the state of Indiana
<br />to create local commissions for the observance of the twonhundreth anniversary_of the - borth of
<br />George Washington in the state of Indiana$ therefore be it
<br />RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND INDIANA, THAT there is hereby created
<br />a committee, which shall be k4xown as the SOUTH BEN GEORGE WASHINGTON BICENTENIAL COMMITTEE,_
<br />hereinafter called the _committee, which shall consist of the Mayor, as honorary chairman, two
<br />members of the Common Council of ikka the city of South Bend, Indiana, and as may other members
<br />as the Mayor shall deem proper:' The members shall be appointed f @r a term of two years. The
<br />Mayor shall make such appointments withiniten days after this resolution takes effect:` The
<br />members: of the committee so appointed shall.be persons of known interest in the preservation of
<br />the,; history of the founding of the United States of America and in commeftorating the men and

<br />Members bf the committee shall serve without c9mpensation The committee shall meet within ten

<br />who shall be chosen from the membership of the committee and shall hold office for a term of
