l- <br />( Concluded ) <br />RESOLUTION. <br />AMERICAN LEGION POST NO. 50. <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />WHEREAS, The American Legion holds as one its civic tenets the .building 2f .up of good sterl <br />character in American youth, and <br />WHEREAS, safe and sane recreational facilities create an atmosphere which the good qualitie <br />our youth may be developed and <br />WHEREAS, in our -City in the vicinity of Arnold and Webster Streets there is an immediate ne <br />of such recreational facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, not the Park Board is authorized by the City (r Council according to the provisions <br />of the State Law to issue Bonds to the sum of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars; and <br />WHEREAS, the cost of the acquisition of property in the vicinity of Arnold. and Webster Stre <br />amd its erection_for suitable playgrounds for the children will not exceed the sum of approximat <br />Fifty Thousand Dollars, and <br />WHEREAS, this expenditure will in noway hinder_ the Park Board from-initiating and completin; <br />simultaneously other necessary projects that it may have in _consideration; and <br />WHEREAS, the needs of playgrounds at Arnold -and Webster streets is urgent and evidenat to <br />all interested citizens; therefore, be it <br />RESOLVED, that we, the members of South Bend Post # 50, The American Legion, in regular <br />meeting assembled approve and endorse the movement fbr the immediate erection of playgrounds in <br />above mentioned vicinity, and urge the members of the Park Board to take immediate action lo-okinj <br />the early produrement of the necessary land and equipment to provide suitable facilities for the <br />children: in above named neighborhood, and be it further <br />RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be sent m to the Hon. Mayor W. R10 Hinkle, to the <br />City Council, and to, the Park BoarA. Respectfully presented, South Bend Poet #50, The American Ll <br />A. W. Wetsel,. Commander. On Motion of Councilman Altgfeld, The Resolut -ion was accepted and �orde: <br />to be placed on file, Motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN GEO., F. HULL. <br />WHEREAS, the increased use of automobiles has placed a burden upon the streets of the City o <br />South Bend which renders them inadequate for parking facilities; and - <br />WHEREA;S, it is of Jawasurable service to the public that it be provided wi th parkin g <br />facilities for automobillWat and other vehicles within a reasonable proximity of the main <br />business district of said City; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works of cities of Indiana are authorized by law to proceed to <br />acquire by lease or otherwise, parking facilities for the use-of the public in -such cities subjec <br />to the approval of the Common Council;_ <br />THEREFORE) BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana that the <br />Board of Public Works of said City be requested to initiate proceedineys for the acquisition by <br />lease or otherwise, of space within the vicinity of the &mfm main business section of South Bend <br />the purpose of accomodating persons who desire to use said space for parking facilities, and the <br />Boardmproceed in the manner directed by the Statutes of Indiana. <br />On Motion of Councilman Hull the Resolution was adopted. Motion carried. <br />On Motion of Councilman Altfeld the Council adjourned at 9:35 o'clock P. M.
