ORDINANCE NO. 6388 -78 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING VARIOUS EXISTING <br />SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 20 OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND AND BY <br />THE ADDITION OF ARTICLE 9 MOBILITY <br />HANDICAPPED PARKING <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend recognizes <br />that many of the concerns of mobility handicapped persons have <br />not been adequately addressed. <br />The Council believes that the City should take all <br />necessary steps to protect and ensure that mobility handicapped <br />persons have the opportunity to live and work in a community <br />which recognizes their difficulty in travel. <br />The Council further believes that it is in the best in- <br />terest of the community to provide a procedure through the <br />Board of Public Works that authorizes it to designate parking <br />spaces for the exclusive use of mobility handicapped persons. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. Chapter 20, Article 1, Section 20 -2 Defini- <br />tions of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend is hereby <br />amended by the addition of the following subsections: <br />(12a) <br />or all <br />restri <br />Handicapped Parking. <br />An area alon <br />lic street <br />ich is <br />(12b) Mobility Handicapped Person. Chapter 20, Article 1, Section 20 -3 of the <br />Municipal Code of the City of South Bend is hereby amended to <br />read as follows: <br />20 -3. Authority of the Board of Public Works and- Safety. <br />(a) The Board of Public Works and - Safety shall have <br />authority: <br />(1) One Way Streets. To designate certain streets <br />and alleys or parts thereof which are to be used by vehicles <br />traveling in only one (1) direction; <br />
