ORDINANCE NO. 6362 -78 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2, <br />ARTICLE 5, SECTION 2 -57 COMMISSION <br />ON STATUS OF WOMEN OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />Members of South Bend Commission on the Status of Women have <br />recommended that certain amendments be made to their existing ordi- <br />nance. The Commission believes that such amendment would facilitate <br />its overall working operation. <br />Therefore, in the interest of improving the governing law <br />of the Commission on the Status of Women, the following bill is <br />introduced: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the <br />City of South Bend, Indiana; as follows: <br />SECTION I. Chapter 2, Article 5, Section 2 -57 (c) of the <br />Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is hereby amended <br />to read in its entirety as follows: <br />(c) Filling Vacancies. Successors to all members of <br />the Commission shall be appointed for terms of three (3) <br />years except when appointed to fill a vacancy in which <br />case such appointment shall be for the unexpired term. <br />SECTION II. Chapter 2, Article 5, Section 2 -57(e) of the <br />Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is hereby amended <br />to read as follows: <br />(e) Compensation; quorum. All members of the Commission <br />shall serve without compensation and ely- tee - X19 } -ees <br />a majority of the membership shall constitute a quorum. <br />SECTION III. Chapter 2, Article 5, Section 2 -57(g) of the <br />Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is hereby amended <br />to read as follows: <br />(g) Concurrence of majority required for action. It shall <br />take the concurrence of a majority of the Commission <br />membership eight (8) to take official action. <br />SECTION IV. Severability. If any provisions of this ordinance <br />are held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions <br />or applications which can be given effect without the invalid pro- <br />vision or application, and to that end, the provisions of this <br />ordinance are declared to be severable. <br />SECTION V. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect <br />from and after its passage by the Common Council, approval by the <br />Mavor, and legal publication. <br />Passed, as amended, May 22, 1978. <br />
