COMMITTEE OF THEW IQLE NOVEMBER 27 ,_l967 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole <br />in the Council Chambers in City Hall on Monday, November 27, 1967 at 8:00 P.M., with all members present <br />except Councilman Hunter. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE DETERMINING THAT IT IS NECESSARY FOR <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND TO CONDEMN CERTAIN REAL <br />ESTATE FOR THE USE AND BENEFIT OF "MEMORIAL HOSPITAL <br />OF SOUTH BEND ", AND THAT THE ACQUISITION OF SAID <br />REAL.ESTATE IS NECESSARY FOR THE EXPANSION OF SAID <br />HOSPITAL' <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. The public hearing had been continued from November 20, 1967. <br />The following Communication was read by Russell C. Smith <br />Re: Memorial Hospital of South Bend <br />Gentlemen: <br />As attorney for Memorial Hospital of South Bend; I wish to advise you that inasmuch <br />as the hospital has been able to contract with the parties, agreeably to both, for <br />the acquisition of the real estate at 607 N. Michigan Street, we respectfully request <br />the withdrawal of the ordinance presently pending before your body regarding said <br />real estate. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />/s/ Russell C. Kuehl <br />The letter was submitted to the Clerk for filing, and accepted as read, by the Council. <br />Councilman Allen made a motion that the Ordinance be withdrawn. Councilman Geib seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. <br />3702 HERETOFORE AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED BY THE MUNICIPAL CODE <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, CHAPTER 40 ET SEQ., AS AMENDED AND <br />SUPPLEMENTED AND ADOPTED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL BY ORDINANCE <br />NO. 4608 -63 (Location N.W. Corner of Bendix and Elwood). <br />This being the time-heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance proponents and opponents <br />were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. The public hearing had been continued from the meeting <br />of November 13, 1967. Councilman Geib made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as unfavorable. <br />Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE GIVING SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS THE AUTHORITY <br />TO DIRECT VEHICULAR AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC; PROVIDING <br />PENALTIES FOR DISOBEDIENCE OF THEIR SIGNALS; AND DECLAR- <br />ING AN EMERGENCY. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance proponents and opponents <br />were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favcAr2f the Ordinance were: Mrs. Mary <br />Hesiben, President of the School Crossing Guards, 401 E. Corby; /Harriet Palicki, 738 Warren St. and <br />Mrs. Shirley White, 1921 Berkley Place. Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the Civic Planning <br />Association took this opportunity to commend all the crossing guards on their excellent performance of <br />duty, and their fine appearance. She further thanked them on behalf of the citizens of South Bend, and <br />praised them for adding a fine appearance to the City. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the <br />Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Palmer seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF <br />CERTAIN LISTED ITEMS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY BELONGING <br />TO THE MUNICIPAL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, <br />INDIANA FOR A SUM NOT LESS THAN THE APPRAISED VALUE <br />OF SAID PERSONAL PROPERTY. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance proponents and opponents <br />were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the Ordinance was James A. Bickel, <br />City Controller. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. <br />Councilman Wise seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />
