59 <br />.6UI,AR —PEIN6 JSJLY 10 1967 <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />A communication from the Indiana State Highway Commission was read by City Engineer, Lloyd Taylor, <br />with reference to parking restrictions on Western Ave. The letter was in reply to a telephone <br />communication from City Attorney, Robert J. Ducomb, requesting an official statement. The letter stated <br />that parking on the street in this area is not recommended by the Indiana State Highway Commission, and <br />that merchants were advised to provide off - street parking for their customers in that area. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Councilman Szymkowiak questioned City Engineer, Lloyd Taylor regarding trash burning restrictions <br />in the City. Mr�rTaylor. :quoted from the ordinance with reference to the burning of trash within <br />the City. Councilman Szymkowiak then made a motion that the ordinance be amended to dim to trash <br />burning between the hours of 1 :00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. There being no second to Mr. Szymkowiak's; motion, <br />he withdrew his motion. Councilman Laven made a motion that the Ordinance Committee study the <br />existing ordinance and that the Clerk communicate with St. Joseph County Health officer, Dr. Louis How <br />inquiring if his office has had any problems in the enforcement of the ordinance. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Councilman Allen pointed out the fact that there is a great number of false fire alarms. She suggested <br />that the Council study a workable program that is in effect in Baltimore, Md. <br />There being no farther business to come before the Council, Councilman Geib made a motion to adjourn. <br />Councilman Laven seconded the motion.
