ORGANIZATION MEETING <br />January 2, 1967 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers <br />in the City Hall, January 2, 1967, at 12 :00 A.M. Mayor Lloyd M. Allen, who presided, called the meeting to <br />order. Mayor Allen expressed profound gratitude to the councilmen for their dedication: Ho.stated that <br />the present solvency of South Bend is due to a combination of community attitude and the confidence of the <br />people in general. He further stated that more attention be given the sociological and cultural aspects <br />of the city. <br />The following Councilmen were present: Councilmen -at- Large: Mrs. Janet Allen, Albert Palmer and John V. Wise; <br />First District Councilman: Richard G. Geib; Second District Councilman: Walter M. Szymkowiak; Third': <br />District Councilman: Robert 0 Laven .. Fourth :.Dlsfrict':Councilman:.�:John L:._Hunter,;Jr.; F'fth.District <br />Councilman Edwin Thomas Smith; and Sixth District Councilman: Chester Muszynski. <br />Mayor Allen Announced that nominations were now open for President of the Common Council. Councilman <br />Smith nomiRetfg C u 1 an John L. Hunter, Jr, for President of the Council. Councilman Wise seconded the <br />motion./ Councilman ise made a motion that nominations be closed. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried, and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous vote for Councilman Hunter for President <br />of the Common Council. <br />Mayor Allen then announced that nominations were now open for the office of Vice - President of the Common Council. <br />Councilman Hunter nominated Councilman Wise for the office of Vice - President. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the nominations be closed. Councilman <br />Geib seconded the motion. Motion carried, and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous vote for Councilman <br />Wise for Vice - President of the Common Council. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Hunter made a motion to adjourn. <br />Councilman Smith seconded the motion.
