COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MAY 9, 1966 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the <br />Whole in the Council Chambers in the City Hall on Monday, May 9, 1966, at 8:00 P.M., with all members present. <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Edwin T. Smith, who presided. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER <br />40 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />(Location: 3409 E. McKinley) <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the Ordinance was Mr. Joseph T. Helling, <br />attorney for the petitioners, Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Jones, and the Ayres Department Store. Councilman <br />Szynkowiak made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable._ Councilman Palmer seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried. Douglas Seeley, attorney, representing the opponents spoke for and against <br />the Ordinance. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $2,000.00 FROM THE <br />GENERAL FUND FOR THE USE OF.THE BOARD OF PUBLIC <br />WORKS AND SAFETY IN CONNECTION WITH THE SESQUI- <br />CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE STATEHOOD OF INDIANA. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the Ordinance was Councilman Allen. <br />Councilman Allen made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Hunter seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $233,000.00 OF THE <br />CUMULATIVE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR VARIOUS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the Ordinance was Councilman Allen, who read <br />a report from the Cumulative Capital Improvement Committee. Councilman Hunter made a motion that the Ordinance <br />go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Laven seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TO AND BRINGING WITHIN <br />THE CITY LIMITS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, CERTAIN <br />LANDS (Location: A tract of land on Edison <br />Rd., between Woodland and Meadowview). <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the Ordinance was F. J. Nimtz, attorney for <br />the petitioner. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. <br />Councilman Laven seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Chai an_ Smith instructed the members of <br />the Committee of the Whole, to rise and report to the Council. <br />ATTEST: APPROVED: <br />CLERK <br />
