320 <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MARCH 14 1966 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the <br />Whole in the Council Chambers in the City Hall on Monday, March 14, 1966, at 8:00 P.M., with all members <br />present except Councilman Palmer, who was absent because of a death in the family. The meeting was called <br />to order by Chairman Edwin T. Smith, who presided. <br />Chairman Smith introduced Reverend Paul Chalfant of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, who gave the invocation. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 ADOPTED BY THE <br />COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, COMMONLY <br />KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE (Location: Southeast <br />Corner of McKinley Ave. and Eddy St.) <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were I <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. The public hearing was continued from the meeting of February 28, 1965' <br />Speaking in favor of the ordinance was Mr. Russell Fisher, attorney for the petitioners, Homestead Developers, 1 <br />Mrs Lydia Johnson and C. E. Bullard, Inc.; also Marathon Oil Company. Mr. Fisher submitted a petition containing <br />fifteen signatures of nearby property owners who are in favor of the ordinance. Speaking in remonstrance s <br />Mr. Irving Smith , representing the Jewish Community Council and Sinai Synagogue. Also speaking against nancel <br />were Tom Hoover, 818 Orange; Marian Wetter,,1162 LaSalle; and Mrs. Ruth Green , 1143 LaSalle. Councilman <br />Hunter read a letter from Mrs. Mary Mellow expressing her reasons for disapproving of the rezoning of the <br />property. Mr. Fisher then spoke in rebuttal. Councilman Hunter made a motion that the ordinance go to the j <br />Council as unfavorable. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING ZONING <br />ORDINANCE NO. 3702 (Location :3617 McKinley Ave.) <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on,the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the ordinance was Mr. M. P. Cholis of <br />the First Bank and Trust Company. Councilman Hunter made a motion the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. <br />Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 1962, AS AMENDED, <br />ALSO KNOWN AS .ORDINANCE NO. 4563, THE SUBDIVISION <br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Councilman Hunter made a motion that the ordinance go to the <br />Council as favorable. Councilman Laven seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Allen made a motion to rise <br />and report to the Council. Councilman Hunter seconded the motion.
