PUBLIC HEARING MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />The Meeting of the Committee of the Whole of the Common Council was held August 16, 1965, at 8 :00 P.M., in <br />the Auditorium of the Public Library to give the citizens an opportunity to review the proposed 1966 budget <br />and tax levy and to be heard thereon. <br />The Meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Councilman Edwin Thomas Smith, Chairman, who presided. All <br />members were present except Councilman Glass, who is critically ill. <br />Chairman Smith introduced Mayor Lloyd M. Allen who gave a short talk. <br />Each department was considered separately and speaking on the proposed budget were the following: <br />Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the South Bend Civic Planning Association; Frank Stender, 721 <br />So. Walnut St. and William Fritsch, 2421 Erskine Blvd., representing the Plumbing and Heating Council. <br />Chairman Smith called for a five minute recess. Meeting recessed at 9:30 P.M. and reconvened at 9:45 P.M. <br />Also heard was Mr. Anthony Kasak of 1609 Medora St. <br />Chairman Smith expressed thanks to the Public Library staff, WSBT Radio Station, WSBT and WNDU TV, all <br />department heads for their cooperation and to all interested citizens who attended the meeting. Chairman <br />Smith announced that the Ways and Means Committee has been making a detailed study of the proposed budget <br />and will have recommendations at the final official hearing on August 30th. <br />The Meeting adjourned at 11 :25 P.M. <br />ATTEST: <br />CLERK <br />nvnunvMn. <br />0 <br />CHAIRMAN <br />
