ORGANIZATION MEETING <br />JANUARY 4, 1965 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers in the <br />City Hall, January 4, 1965, at 7:30 P.M. Mayor Lloyd M. Allen called the meeting to order and before conducting <br />the election said he wished to express his gratitude for the Council's discerning and conscientious approach to <br />legislative matters and for expending great effort in behalf of city government. Mayor Allen stated that urban <br />affairs will assume more and more importance and in 1965 we will have new problems to face and asked that you <br />give the same dedication to your duties as you gave in the past year. <br />The following Councilmen were present: Councilmen -At -Large Mrs. Janet Allen, Albert Palmer and John V. Wise; <br />First District Councilman Richard G. Geib; Second District Councilman Walter M. Szymkowiak; Third District <br />Councilman Walter G. Glass; Fourib District Councilman John L. Hunter Jr.; Fifth District Councilman Edwin Thomas <br />Smith and Sixth District Councilman Chester Muszynski. <br />Mayor Allen announced that nominations were now open for President of the Common Council. Councilman Smith <br />nominated Councilman John L. Hunter Jr. for President of the Council. Councilman Palmer seconded the nomination. <br />Councilman Glass moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Wise seconded the motion. Motion carried and <br />the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for Councilman Hunter for President of the Common Council. <br />Councilman Hunter was declared the duly re- elected President of the Council. <br />President Hunter then announced for nominations for the office of Vice- President. <br />Councilman Geib nominated Councilman John V. Wise for Vice- President of the Common Council. Councilman Glass <br />seconded the nomination. Councilman Smith moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Hunter seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for Councilman Wise for <br />Vice - President of the Council. Councilman Wise was declared the duly re- elected Vice - President of the Council. <br />There being no <br />Councilman Wise <br />at 7:38 P.M. <br />ATTEST: <br />further business to come before the Council, Councilman Hunter made a motion to adjourn. <br />seconded the motion.
