REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 24, 1964 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in Regular Session in the <br />Council Chambers in the City Hall on Monday, August 24, 1964, at 8:26-P.M., with all members present except <br />Councilman Wise. The meeting was called to order by President John L. Hunter Jr., who presided. <br />ROLL CALL <br />PRESENT: Counciluen Hunter, Allen, Palmer, Geib, Szymkowiak, <br />Glass, Smith and Muszynski. <br />ABSENT: Councilman Wise. <br />REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have <br />inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. Motion carried. <br />PETITIONS <br />Councilman Geib made a motion that petitions (items 6 to 9) be stricken from the agenda due to the fact that <br />reports are received from the City Planning Commission. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion <br />carried. <br />REPORT OF WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />My Committee on Ways and Means has examined the 1965 Budget and that in their opinion it generally reflects a <br />desire of our Administration to start building upon the surveys of the past. <br />The increases proposed are based upon supplying the necessary brick and mortar to build the goal of the Challenge <br />Team. <br />My Committee has met for an average of four hours per night and five to six hours on Saturdays, from August 4th <br />through the 18th, to analyze each department. We are proud of the sincere cooperation of our city officials. <br />We have been able to trim the budget some, and in this regard we offer the attached department reports containing <br />our recommendations totalling $73,458.00. <br />Attach. <br />OFFICE OF MAYOR <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />/s/ Richard G. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />OFFICE OF CITY CONTROLLER <br />The budget of City Controller can be reduced as follows: <br />Account No. Reduction <br />B -212 Postage $ 25.00 <br />B -213 Traveling Expenses 100.00 <br />B -361 Official Records 300.00 <br />B -51 Insurance 4,000.00 <br />Total Recommended Reductions $ 7,425.00 <br />* This is done to take out $1,000.00 deductible liability insurance rather than full coverage. <br />Councilman Smith made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Palmer seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried. <br />OFFICE OF CITY CLERK <br />There can be further savings effectuated in the proposed budget for the Office of City Clerk in the following <br />accounts: <br />Account No. Reduction <br />C -11 Salary of Traffic Bureau 1 @ $3,735.00 <br />Clerks <br />C -212 Postage: 1,000.00 <br />C=213 Traveling Expenses 280.00 <br />C -54 Clothing Allowances - 540.00 <br />Total Reduction $51555.00 <br />Councilman Glass made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file.
