REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 24, 1964 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in Regular Session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall on Monday, August 24, 1964, at 8:26-P.M., with all members present except Councilman Wise. The meeting was called to order by President John L. Hunter Jr., who presided. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Counciluen Hunter, Allen, Palmer, Geib, Szymkowiak, Glass, Smith and Muszynski. ABSENT: Councilman Wise. REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend that the same be approved. Meeting of August 10, 1964. /s/ Sohn L. Hunter Jr. ) /s/ Walter G. Glass ) /s/ Chester Muszynski ) Committee Councilman Glass made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Smith seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITIONS Councilman Geib made a motion that petitions (items 6 to 9) be stricken from the agenda due to the fact that reports are received from the City Planning Commission. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: My Committee on Ways and Means has examined the 1965 Budget and that in their opinion it generally reflects a desire of our Administration to start building upon the surveys of the past. The increases proposed are based upon supplying the necessary brick and mortar to build the goal of the Challenge Team. My Committee has met for an average of four hours per night and five to six hours on Saturdays, from August 4th through the 18th, to analyze each department. We are proud of the sincere cooperation of our city officials. We have been able to trim the budget some, and in this regard we offer the attached department reports containing our recommendations totalling $73,458.00. Attach. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. OFFICE OF CITY CONTROLLER The budget of City Controller can be reduced as follows: Account No. Reduction B -212 Postage $ 25.00 B -213 Traveling Expenses 100.00 B -361 Official Records 300.00 B -51 Insurance 4,000.00 Total Recommended Reductions $ 7,425.00 * This is done to take out $1,000.00 deductible liability insurance rather than full coverage. Councilman Smith made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Palmer seconded the motion. Motion carried. OFFICE OF CITY CLERK There can be further savings effectuated in the proposed budget for the Office of City Clerk in the following accounts: Account No. Reduction C -11 Salary of Traffic Bureau 1 @ $3,735.00 Clerks C -212 Postage: 1,000.00 C=213 Traveling Expenses 280.00 C -54 Clothing Allowances - 540.00 Total Reduction $51555.00 Councilman Glass made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file.
