Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers in the <br />City Hall, Tuesday, January 2, 1962, at 7:32 P.M., with all members present. The meeting was called to order by <br />Mayor Frank J. Bruggner. The Clerk then read the call for a Special Meeting, as follows: <br />STATE OF INDIANA ) <br />COUNTY OF ST. JOSEPH ) SS: <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND ) <br />CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING <br />To the President, and Members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: <br />Gentlemen: <br />You are hereby notified that under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by law as Mayor of the City of <br />South Bend, in the State of Indiana, a Special Statutory of Law Meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby <br />called to meet in the Council Chamber, in the City Hall at the hour of 7:30 P.M., on Tuesday, January 2, 1962, for <br />the following purpose, to -wit: <br />"TO CHOOSE FROM ITS MEMBERS A PRESIDING OFFICER OR PRESIDENT, AND ALSO A PRESIDING OFFICER PRO TEMPORE, <br />OR VICE - PRESIDENT." <br />The Chief of Police or any member of the Police Force is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this notice on <br />each member of the Common Council and make due return of such service of said Special Meeting. <br />Dated this 26th day of December, 1961. <br />/s/ FRANK J. Glass <br />AND BY LEAVING A CERTIFIED COPY THEREOF AT THE LAST AND USUAL PLACE OF RESIDENCE OF SUCH MEMBERS AS I WAS UNABLE TO <br />FIND, AS FOLLOWS: <br />/s/ J. Charles Dutrieux <br />Chief of Police <br />Per: /s/ Florian J. Szuba <br />Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Call for Special Meeting be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Lehman <br />i seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />The Clerk then read the Roll Call and all Councilman were present, as follows: <br />Councilmen at Large, J. Chester Allen, Eugene Ladewski and Albert Tellson; First District Councilman Harold L. Cole- <br />man; Second District Councilman Joseph T. Kroll; Third District Councilman Walter G. Glass; Fourth District Council- <br />man Paul E. Kr-ueper, Jr.; Fifth District Councilman T. W. Lehman and Sixth District Councilman Chester E. Muszynski. <br />Mayor Bruggner announced that nominations were now open for President of the Common Council. Councilman Lehman <br />nominated Councilman Kroll for the office of President. Councilman Allrn seconded the nomination. Councilman <br />Muszynski moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Lehman seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman <br />Ladewski moved that the Clerk of the Council cast one unanimous ballot for Mr. Kroll for President of the Council. <br />Councilman Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Kroll was declared the duly elected President of <br />the Common Council and Mayor Bruggner presented him with the gavel. <br />President Kroll then thanked the Council for the confidence expressed by his re- election as President. He thanked <br />the Council for their support during the year 1961. He pledged his cooperation with the Councilmen in the coming <br />year and asked for their continued support. <br />President Kroll then asked for nominations for the office of Vice- President. <br />Councilmaa Muszynski nominated Councilman Tellson for the office of Vice President. Councilman Lehman seconded the <br />mot Wn. Councilman.Allen made a motion that the nominations be closed. Councilman Lehman seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. Councilman Lehman made a motion that the Clerk of the Council cast one unanimous ballot for Mr. <br />Tellson for Vice - President of the Council. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried, <br />Mr. Tellson thanked the Council for their expression of confidence and pledged his cooperation for the coming year. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Lehman made a motion to adjourn.
