REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY To the Common Council City of South Bend Gentlemen: March 7, 1961 With reference to your Directive of February 28, 1961, concerning the request of Councilman Glass for a St. Joseph River Patrol, referred to the Board of Public Works & Safety, the following action was taken at the regular meeting o the Board of Public Works & Safety on Monday, March 6, 1961: ST. JOSEPH RIVER PATROL It appearing to the Board that members of the South Bend Common Council and the Police Department met with reference to the St. Joseph River .control, the Board is advised that Councilman Tellson made a motion, seconded by Councilman Glass, and carried, that the City purchase a boat for such control and the Park Department supervise the policing. After review, the Board hereby accepts the proposal and will confirm the action of said Councilmen and Police Depart- ment, subject to Park Board Supervision. A motion by Councilman Krueper that the Traffic Engineer make safety signs and post same was seconded by Councilman Tellson and carried. The Board approved Councilman Krueper's motion and asks Traffic Engineer to post signs at strategic locations in accordance with said motion. Complaint of Councilman Muszynski concerning dogs running at large in the 3700 block of Belle Vista and the 800 block of Wellington and Kenmore. Item II. Request of Councilman Lehman for a check on dogs in the Fifth District. 1 At the regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety on Monday, March 6, 1961 this Directive was examined and referred to the Department of Health for investigation and report. REPORT OF BOARD OF HEALTH Att: Councilman Muszynski Att: Councilman Lehman 3 -13 -61 Reference the above complaint, the Board of Health, has received numerous complaints on the above neighbor -hoods and districts. This matter has been taken up and advised to the Humane Society. Mr. Gilbert, of the humane society is aware of the fact and has his men trying to pick up the dogs. Respectfully submitted, Sgt. A. M. You will recall you referred this.letter to my office inasmuch as I informed you I was meeting with individuals ac- quainted with this particular field.
