REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY <br />To the Common Council <br />City of South Bend <br />Gentlemen: <br />March 7, 1961 <br />With reference to your Directive of February 28, 1961, concerning the request of Councilman Glass for a St. Joseph <br />River Patrol, referred to the Board of Public Works & Safety, the following action was taken at the regular meeting o <br />the Board of Public Works & Safety on Monday, March 6, 1961: <br />ST. JOSEPH RIVER PATROL <br />It appearing to the Board that members of the South Bend Common Council and the Police Department met with reference <br />to the St. Joseph River .control, the Board is advised that Councilman Tellson made a motion, seconded by Councilman <br />Glass, and carried, that the City purchase a boat for such control and the Park Department supervise the policing. <br />After review, the Board hereby accepts the proposal and will confirm the action of said Councilmen and Police Depart- <br />ment, subject to Park Board Supervision. <br />A motion by Councilman Krueper that the Traffic Engineer make safety signs and post same was seconded by Councilman <br />Tellson and carried. <br />The Board approved Councilman Krueper's motion and asks Traffic Engineer to post signs at strategic locations in <br />accordance with said motion. <br />AJS :ES <br />CC to: Traffic Engineer <br />ALSO <br />To the Common Council <br />City of South Bend <br />I Gentlemen: <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />/s/ Anthony J. Complaint of Councilman Muszynski concerning dogs running at large in the 3700 block of Belle Vista and <br />the 800 block of Wellington and Kenmore. <br />Item II. Request of Councilman Lehman for a check on dogs in the Fifth District. <br />1 At the regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety on Monday, March 6, 1961 this Directive was examined <br />and referred to the Department of Health for investigation and report. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />/s/ Anthony J. Councilman Allen seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF BOARD OF HEALTH <br />Att: Councilman Muszynski <br />Att: Councilman Lehman <br />3 -13 -61 <br />Reference the above complaint, the Board of Health, has received numerous complaints on the above neighbor -hoods <br />and districts. This matter has been taken up and advised to the Humane Society. Mr. Gilbert, of the humane society <br />is aware of the fact and has his men trying to pick up the dogs. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Sgt. A. M. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF CITY ATTORNEY <br />South Bend Common Council <br />City Hall <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />ATTN: Freda Noble, Clerk <br />Gentlemen: <br />March 2, 1961 <br />At the meeting of the Common Council held on the 27th day of February, 1961, a communication addressed to Alex <br />Andrzejewski, Chief of the South Bend Fire Department, was read to the Common Council in reference to coin - operated <br />cleansing machines being used in South Bend and the toxic, noxious and poisonous solvents used within these machines. <br />You will recall you referred this.letter to my office inasmuch as I informed you I was meeting with individuals ac- <br />quainted with this particular field. <br />I wish to call your attention to the fact I have just completed a conference with Mr. Charles Mintz, an officer of <br />
