Toth, President of the Chamber of Commerce of South Bend, Inc., endorsing having <br />a competent and impartial survey of the current situation with respect to parking and traffic conditions in the cen- <br />tral business district. - <br />Speaking in favor of the proposed Ordinance were the following: Mr. Nicholas P. Cholis, Attorney, St. Joseph Bank <br />Building; Mr. Albert Meilstrup, 1252 Sunnymede Avenue, South Bend, Indiana; Mr. Sam Dunnuck, Jr., from G. E. Meyer <br />and Son, 209 South Main Street,.South Bend, Indiana; Dan Clark, who owns property at 104 North Michigan Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana; Ernest F. Greenwood, who owns Ernies" Supermarkets; Kenneth Freshley, 2520 Pleasant Street; <br />Mr. John A. Toth of the Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Robert Fischgrund, 1205 Garland Road, Treasurer of the Downtown <br />Council; Vito Girone, Associate Professor of Architecture at Notre Dame; Jacob Burke, 559 River Avenue; Byron W. <br />Sheets, 1425 E. LaSalle Avenue, who operates a business at 136 North Michigan Street; J. E.. Barkley, 1202 East <br />Victoria; Dick Albright, 728 Marquette; Mary Sweeney, 102 West North Shore Drive. <br />Speaking in opposition to the proposed Ordinance were Mr. Louis C. Chapleau, Attorney for the South Bend Parking <br />Company; Mr. William E. Voor, Attorney representing The Green Arrow Parking Company of South Bend; Mr. Donald F. <br />Erhardt, President of the River Park Business Men's Association. Mr. Jacob Mitchelin, 3820 South Michigan Street <br />stated. that he was neither for nor against the proposed Ordinance by that he has a plan which would provide off - street <br />parking and would like to present it to the Council. No action was taken. <br />Speaking in rebuttal was Mr. Nicholas Cholis, Attorney. Also heard was Mr. Phillip Welber, President of the Down -To <br />Council, Inc., and President of Robertson's Department Store. <br />Councilman Kroll made a motion for a.five minute recess. Councilman Krueper seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Recess granted at 9:30 P.M. <br />The Committee of the Whole Meeting reconvened at 9:39 P.M. <br />Councilman Allen made a motion that the Ordinance be held in Committee for further Study. Councilman Kroll seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business to come before the Committee of the Whole Meeting, Councilman Kroll made a motion to <br />adjourn. Councilman Coleman seconded the motion.
