I! At the request of Councilman Lehman, the Clerk read the following Resolution:
<br />RESOLUTION
<br />WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Common Council of the Municipal City of South Bend, Indiana,
<br />that one of its venerable and former members is ill; and,
<br />WHEREAS, this Council, as well as the Community, is most appreciative for the governmental service contr
<br />ted by said Councilman, Walter C. Erler, Sr.; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the members of the Council have enjoyed the .fellowship of the said Walter C. Erler, Sr.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that the Council
<br />go on record as wishing Walter C. Erler, Sr., a most speedy recovery so that he may continue as in the past to enjoy
<br />good health and happiness and that a copy of this Resolution be directed to Walter C. Erler, Sr.,

<br />Councilman Muszynski made a motion for adoption of the Resolution. Councilman Allen seconded the motion. The motion
<br />was unanimously carried.
<br />RESOLUTION
<br />WHEREAS, the retailing industry plays a vital and dynamic role in the economic health and well -being of
<br />South Bend; and,
<br />WHEREAS, retailers in our community employ over ten thousand of our citizens in personally rergarding and
<br />materially satisfying occupations; and,
<br />WHEREAS, South Bend merchants are numbered amoung the most active, civic - minded of our citizens and have
<br />been responsible for much of the progress and many of the accomplishments of our community through the years; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the week of January 30 - February 4, 1961, has been designated as National Merchants Week through-
<br />out the United States of America;
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of South Bend,joins in full support and
<br />properly recognize retailing's importance in our community; and,
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the week of January 30 - February 4, 1961, be hereby proclaimed as Retail
<br />Merchants Week in South Bend, Indiana, to commemorate the worthwhile efforts of our community's retailers; and,
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Downtown South Bend Council, Inc.,
<br />the press and other interested organizations.

<br />Councilman Coleman made a motion for adoption of the Resolution..- Councilman Lehman seconded.the motion. Motion
<br />was unanimously carried.
<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />Councilman Allen made a motion, seconded by Councilman Krueper, that the Miscellaneous Committee meet with the City
<br />Clerk relative to the preparation of an Annual Council Report. Motion carried.
<br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Glass made a motion to adjourn. Councilman
<br />Tellson seconded the motion. Motirn carried and the Regular Meeting of the Common Council adjourned at 9:32 P.M.
