R E S O L U T I O N <br />WHEREAS,. God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has called from this life EDWARD FRANCIS <br />VOORDE, Mayor of the City of South Bend; and, <br />WHEREAS, his death has brought much grief and sorrow to his family, his friends, <br />the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, and the State of Indiana; and, <br />WHEREAS, he was born and raised in the City of South Bend, and served the <br />Township and the City in government service for many, many years last past up to and <br />including the day of his death; and, <br />all; and, <br />WHEREAS, his efficiency, ability and capabilities in government are known to <br />WHEREAS, his term of office as Mayor of the City of South Bend, beginning in <br />1956 and continuing to his untimely death, has been one of outstanding service to the <br />community, and the City has progressed and benefited greater than ever before; and, <br />WHEREAS, his kindness, charity and devotion to people in all walks of life, <br />regardless of creed, color or religion, was a matter of notice to all; and, <br />WHEREAS, his concern for his fellow man was most important in all his endeavors° <br />as well as his concern and love for his family; and, <br />WHEREAS, our Community has suffered a most tremendous loss by his death by <br />virtue of his public service as well as his philanthropic and human service to the <br />people of the community, his family and his church. <br />NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That we, the Common Council of the City of <br />South Bend, on our own behalf, and on behalf of the elected officials, appointed <br />officials and employees of the City of South Bend, do hereby extend to the entire <br />family of EDWARD FRANCIS VOORDE our most sincere sympathy in this, their, as well as our, <br />deepest hour of sorrow. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a page in the Council Records of the City of South <br />Bend be set aside and this Resolution be copied therein and a copy duly certified by the <br />Clerk be sent to his family. <br />/s/ JOSEPH T. Motion carried by a unanimous vote of the Council. Resolution <br />adopted. <br />Date of death. of Mayor Voorde, September 2, 1960. <br />
