imi <br />ORGANIZATION MEETING JANUARY 4, _1960 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers In the City <br />Hall, Monday, January 4, 1960, at 7:36 P.M., with all members present. Mayor Edward F. Voorde called the meeting to <br />order and welcomed the newly elected Councilmen and thrked the returning Councilmen for the splendid support given <br />him during the preceeding year. He asked that all present stand for a moment of silent prayer. Mayor Voorde <br />reviewed accomplishments during the past four years and asked that the Council continue as they have in the past to <br />help the City - progress. Mayor Voorde stated that this meeting was held in conformance with Article II, Section 21 <br />of Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana. <br />The following Councilmen were present: Councilmen -at -Large J. Chester Allen, Eugene Ladewski and Albert Tellson; <br />First District Councilman Harold Coleman; Second District Councilman Joseph T. Kroll; Third District Councilman <br />Walter G. Glass; court District Councilman Paul E. Krueper, Jr.;Fifth District Councilman T. W. Lehman; Sixth <br />Disctrict Councilman Chester E. Muszynski. <br />Mayor Voorde announced that nominations were now open for President of the Common Council. Councilman Kroll nominates <br />Councilman Muszynski for President. Councilman Muszynski declined the nomination. Councilman Muszynski then nominat <br />ed Councilman Kroll for President. Councilman Krueper seconded the nomination. Councilman Muszynski made a motion <br />that nominations be closed, since there were no further nominations. Councilman Lehman seconded the motion. Motion <br />carried and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous vote for Councilman Kroll for President of the Common Coun- <br />cil. Mr. Kroll was declared the duly elected President of the Common Council and Mayor Voorde presented him with <br />the gavel. <br />President Kroll then presided and called for nominations for Vice President. <br />Councilman Coleman nominated Councilman Tellson for Vice President. Councilman Ladewski seconded the nomination. <br />There being no further nominations, Councilman Lehman moved to close the nominations. Councilman Muszynski seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous vote for Councilman Tellson for Vice <br />President. Councilman Tellson was declared the duly elected Vice President of the Council. <br />Councilman Ladewski nominated Councilman Lehman for Chairman of the Committee of the Whole. Councilman i"iuszynski <br />seconded the motion. There being no further nominations, Councilman Coleman moved that the nominations be closed. <br />Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous vote <br />for Councilman Lehman. Councilman Lehman was declared the duly elected Chairman of the Committee of the Whole. <br />Councilman Lehman nominated Councilman Muszynski for Member of the City Planning Commission. Councilman Coleman <br />seconded the motion. There being no further nominations, Councilman Krueper moved that the nominations be closed. <br />Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Clerk was instructed to cast a unanimous vote for <br />Councilman Muszynski as a member of the City Planning Commission. Councilman Muszynski was then declared the duly <br />elected Member of the City Planning Commission. <br />There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Tellson made a motion to adjourn.
