101 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />REPORT..OF.FEES AND SALARIES COMMITTEE <br />APRIL 23, 1959 <br />Councilman Kroll, Chairman of the Fees and Salaries Committee, reported that the Committee had met and decided <br />that a Citizens Committee should be appointed by the Mayor to study the proposed Ordinance and to meet with the <br />Fees and Salaries Committee relative to making a recommendation to the Council regarding Salaries of the Elected <br />Officials. He asked that a member be appointed by each of the following Organizations to act on said Committee: <br />Chamber of Commerce, Committee of 100, South Bend Civic Planning Association, St. Joseph County Bar Association <br />and the St. Joseph County Industrial Union Council. The Mayor of the City is to act as ex- officio member. The <br />Committee shall meet immediatLe.2y and report to the Council by the April 27th meeting. The Mayor is requested to <br />send a letter to each organization requesting the appointment of a representative of the organization. The Clerk <br />is asked to obtain from other second class cities in Indiana their action in regard to their Salary ordinance. <br />Councilman Erler made a motion to accept the report and request for the Committee to be made by the Council, <br />Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Councilman Erhardt seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE 14HOLE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE FOR THE ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Clay Township), Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their,opinior <br />IT SHOULD BE kept in the Committee of the Whole for further study. <br />/s/ Joseph T. Kroll, Chairman <br />Councilman Hahn made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Councilman Korpal asked the Clerk to advise the Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety to arrange to have <br />the Public Address system repaired so that it will be in good working order and also to have a technician at the <br />next meeting to check the system. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Councilman Glass requested that the Street Department complete the work on the alley in the 900 block of Roberts and <br />Emerson Streets near Ruskin Street. Water stands in holes'in the alley and whereas the Street Department graded <br />and did excellent work on this alley so far, there is still work to be done so that people can use their garages. <br />Councilman Tellson requested that the Street Department check the cross walk at the alley near Hoffman Brothers <br />at Madison and Eddy Streets.' <br />Councilman Erler statad that water stands between the curb and street and that the pavement is broken and water <br />seeping in the vicinity of 3314 and 3318 Addison Street. He asked that the Street Department take care of this con- <br />dition. <br />City Engineer Ray Andrysiak asked the Council for their cooperation in allowing the City to purchase land at Sample <br />Street and Main Street a little ahead of schedule due to the fact that the Shafet Gear Works is building a new <br />addition to their present structure and would donate land adjacent to the proposed purchased property for the widening <br />of Sample. Councilman Erler made a motion to cooperate with the City Engineer. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn.
