- ..i - .. <br />SPECIAL MEETING DECEMBER 1, 1958 <br />This being the time set for the continued Special Meeting of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />the meeting was called to order by President Stanley C. Korpal, at 8 :13 P.M., Monday, December 1, 1958, with all <br />members present. <br />The Clerk read the following Call for Special Meeting: <br />STATE OF INDIANA <br />ST. JOSEPH COUNTY SS: CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />To the President and Members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: <br />Gentlemen: <br />You are hereby notified that under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by law as Mayor of the City <br />of South Bend, in the State of Indiana, a Special Meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to me( <br />in the Council Chamber, in the City Hall at the hour of 8 :00 P.M., on Wednesday, November 12, 1958, for the followinE <br />purpose: <br />TO ELECT A SUCCESSOR TO GEORGE W. CARR, COUNCILMAN -AT- LARGE, WHO TENDERED HIS RESIGNATION <br />EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 1958, THUS CREATING A VACANCY IN THE SOUTH BEND CITY COUNCIL. <br />The Chief of Police or any member of the Police Force is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this <br />notice on each and every member of the Common Council and make due return of such service of said Special Meeting. <br />Dated this 8th day of November, 1958. <br />S E A L <br />/s/ Freda G. Voorde, Mayor of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana <br />Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Call for Special Meeting be accepted and placed on file. Councilman <br />Christman seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />President Korpal announciled that the nominations for the office of Councilman -at -Large are now open. <br />Councilman Christman moved to place in nomination the name of Herman F. Waechter, 216 North Sunnyside, South Bend, <br />Indiana. <br />Councilman Erler moved that the nominations be closed. There was no second to the motion. <br />Councilman Tellson moved to place in nomination Donald F. Erhardt, 806 Thirty- Second Street, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Councilman Kroll moved that the nominations be closed., Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Upon Roll Call, the following results were announced: <br />Councilman Korpal Mr. Erhardt <br />Councilman Tellson Mr. Erhardt <br />Councilman Christman Mr. Waechter <br />Councilman Kroll Mr. Erhardt <br />Councilman Glass Mr. Waechter <br />Councilman Hahn Mr. Erhardt. Mr. Hahn stated that he knew he would be criticized for voting as <br />he did, but in the interests of good government, he would cast his vote for Mr. Erhardt. <br />Councilman Erler Mr. Erhardt. <br />Councilman Muszynski W, Erhardt, <br />The clerk then announced that there were 6 votes cast for Mr. Erhardt and 2 votes cast for Mr. Waechter and <br />Councilman Erler realizing he had made an error, asked permission to change his vote to Mr. Waechter. The Clerk <br />then read the results of the Roll Call Vote with 5 votes for Mr Erhardt and 3 votes for Mr. Waechter. Mr. Erhardt <br />was then declared the duly elected Councilman -at -Large to fill the unexpired term of Councilman -at -Large George W. <br />Carr, who resigned. <br />
