33 <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING <br />JUNE 9, 1958 <br />Be it Remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole in the <br />Council Chambers on Monday June 9, 1958, at 8:21 P.M., with all members present. The meeting was called to order by <br />Councilman Carr, Chairman, who presided. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF <br />SELF - SERVICE LAUNDRIES <br />Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard on this Ordinance. Councilman Kroll made a motion to <br />amend the Ordinance as follows: There shall be added to Section I, (b) "There shall be an attendant on duty at all <br />times where a laundry open to the public has living quarters on any floor" <br />Also, There shall be added to Section 2 of the ordinance a subparagraph which will read as follows: <br />" (1) Before any new self - service laundry shall begin operation, inspection shall be made by the fire <br />department inspection bureau and approval given ". <br />Section III shall be amended to read as follows: <br />"It shall be the duty of the fire department inspection bureau to inspect each and every <br />self- service laundry whenever it is deemed necessary for the purpose of determining <br />whether or not the owner or operator therof is observing and abiding by the rules and <br />regulations of this Article. If any operator fails to correct any violation of this or- <br />dinance, or has not taken the necessary steps to an expeditious correction of any viola- <br />tion, cited by the fire inspection bureau, within twelve (12) hours after such notice of <br />violation, it shall then be the duty of the fire inspection bureau to take immediate <br />action to the end of closing such establishment pending the correction df such infraction ". <br />Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Councilman Kroll then made a motion that the Ordinance, as amended, go to the Council as favorable. Councilman <br />Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Korpal made a motion to adjourn. <br />Councilman Tellson seconded the motion.
