Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole in <br />the Council Chambers, Monday, January 27, 1958, at 8 :21 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Erler. <br />The meeting was called to order by Councilman Carr, Chairman, who presided. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING, RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING A CERTAIN <br />CONTRACT AND AGREEMENT MADE AND ENTERED INTO BY AND BETWEEN <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ACTING BY AND THROUGH ITS <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, AND NORTHERN INDIANA <br />TRANSIT, INC., ITS SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, WHICH SAID CONTRACT <br />RELATES TO THE RATES CHARGED FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION SERVICE UPON <br />CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS IN SAID CITY. <br />Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard on this,Ordinance. Mr. Hesiben, 113 Lake Street, <br />remonstrated and asked for better service. Nicholas Cholis, Attorney for the Bus Company, spoke in favor of the <br />Ordinance. Councilman Glass made a motion that this Ordinance be tabled for further study. There was no second <br />to the motion. Motion lost. Councilman Hahn made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. <br />Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL FUND $6,844.00 <br />TO CITY CEMETERY ACCOUNT N -11, SALARY OF SEXTON $600.00; <br />TO ACCOUNT N -12 REGULAR AND TEMPORARY LABOR $6,144.00; AND <br />TO ACCOUNT N -331 GASOLINE $100.00, ALL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE <br />CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR 1958, AND DECLARING <br />AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY. <br />Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard on this Ordinance. Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive <br />Secretary of the South Bend Civic Planning Association opposed the Ordinance. Councilman Kroll made a motion that <br />the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Korpal made a motion to adjourn. <br />Councilman Hahn seconded the motion.
