COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING <br />AUGUST 26, 1968 <br />41k' I <br />Stephen T. McTigue, executive secretary of the South Bend - Mishawaka Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed concern <br />with the tax increase and requested the Council to give pinpoint value on this budget. Larry DeFries, represent - <br />ing_ the Jaycees was pleased with the proposed cuts by the Council. Speaking against the budget was Mr. <br />Robert Booth, 615 S. Greenlawn, and Mr. Richard Paiden who asked if any of the city officials had attended <br />seminars on systems analysis on cost reduction. Councilman Laven moved for a twenty minute recess. Councilman <br />Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. Recess 8 :55 P.M. Reconvened 9:30 P.M. Councilman Craven <br />made a motion the Budget Ordinance be amended as read. Councilman Laven seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Councilman Craven made a motion the Ordinance go to the Council favorableas: amended. Councilman Allen: seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES AND FIXING THE RATE OF TAXATION <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE TO MEET THE NECESSARY <br />EXPENSE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1969. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were <br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Councilman Reinke made a motion the Tax Levy Ordinance go to the <br />Council as favorable with the following amendments. General Fund, the-sum of 2.42. Park Maintenance Fund, <br />the sum of .46. Redevelopment Bond Fund, the sum of .168. Human Relations and Fair Employment Practices <br />Commission Fund, the sum of .015. Cumulative Sewer Building and Sinking Fund, the sum of .25. Councilman <br />Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Laven made a motion to rise <br />and report to the Council. Councilman Reinke seconded the motion.
