TTTTTfi fifi_F fifiT_T_ 'I,'F-r -r4C4 1c�r�r KKK *�K�K�K�I )K*>r>K *MW <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 11. 1980 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council Chambers <br />of the County -City Building on Monday, February 11, 1980 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was called <br />to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL PRESENT: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak, Beck, Taylor, Kopczynski, <br />Crone, Dombrowski, Voorde and McGann <br />ABSENT: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub - committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would respectfully <br />report that it has inspected the minutes of the January 28, 1980 meeting of the Council and <br />found them correct. <br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />/s /Lewis A. Beck <br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the January 28, 1980 meeting of the <br />Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Dombrowski. The motion <br />carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />Council Member Taylor made a motion to reappoint Mr. Alonzo Watson to the Human Rights Com- <br />mission, seconded by Council Member Dombrowski. The motion carried. <br />Mayor Parent presented a proclamation to Walter Szymkowiak on his 70th birthday and 17 years <br />on theCouncil. Council President McGann read the following resolution: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 751 -80 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />CONGRATULATING WALTER M. SZYMKOWIAK ON HIS SEVENTIETH (70th) <br />BIRTHDAY AND COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AS <br />THE SECOND DISTRICT COUNCILMAN FOR THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND. <br />WHEREAS, Walter M. Szymkowiak is beginning his fifth (5th) term and seventeenth (17th) <br />year as the hardworking Second District Councilman in the City; and <br />WHEREAS, since he began as a Councilman in 1963 he has been very involved in Council <br />Committees; some of his activities include: being the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation <br />Committee from 1972 to 1979; serving on the Public Works and Century.Center Committes; and <br />presently being the Chairman of the Utilities Committee and Chairman of the Committee of the <br />Whole; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilman Szymkowiak has responded to thousands of citizen requests over the <br />years and was one of the firstcouncilmen to open a neighborhood office to better serve his <br />people in the Second District; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilman Szymkowiak has worked very hard on such projects as the Save -A -Life <br />Fund, the LaSalle Square Development, and many projects within his own Second District and <br />the downtown; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilman Szymkowiak at the age of 70 years is truly an inspiration to all <br />citizens and exemplifies a fine example of a hardworking and dedicated public servant. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of theCity of South Bend, Indiana: <br />SECTION I: That the Citizens of South Bend, through.their Common Council commend <br />and congratulate Second District Councilman, Walter M. Szymkowiak on his 70th birthday. <br />SECTION II. That the Council wishes Councilman Szymkowiak, the "Dean" of the Council, <br />continued success as he begins his 17th year of service as the Second District Councilman. <br />
