<br />Glenn Terry, Division Chief of the Police Department, made the presentation for the bill. He
<br />indicated this appropriation was to be used to pay the School Corporation for data services.
<br />Council Member Adams made a motion to recommend this bill to the Council favorable, seconded
<br />by Council Member Taylor. The motion carried.
<br />BILL NO. 101 -79 A BILL AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 5, SECTION 2 -50 COMMONLY
<br />KNOWN AS THE BOARDS OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND OF PUBLIC WORKS.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents and opponents
<br />were given an opportunity to be heard. Councilman Adams made the presentation for the bill.
<br />She indicated that Public Law 169 would allow the Board of Public Works to enter into contracts
<br />f.or the purchase of real and personal property, and the power to contract for any services
<br />or work without Common Council approval for amounts less than $10,000. She made a motion to
<br />amend the bill in Section I(g) to read: "All contracts concerning municipal utilities which
<br />are for thepurchase of any real estate or personal property, and all contracts for any services.
<br />or work where the amount to be expended shall exceed the sum of four thousand dollars ($4,000.00;
<br />must be approved by ordinance of the Common Council," seconded by Council Member Kopczynski.
<br />The motion failed on a roll call vote of three ayes and six nays (Council Members Serge,
<br />Szymkowiak, Miller, Taylor, Horvath and.Parent.) Council Member Taylor made a motion to amend
<br />Council Member Adams' motion to raise.the figure from $4,000 to $7,500, seconded by Council
<br />President Parent. The motion carried on a roll call vote of seven ayes and two nays (Council
<br />Members Szymkowiak and Kocpzynski.) Council Member Taylor made a motion to recommend this
<br />bill to the Council favorable, as amended, seconded by.Council Member Dombrowski. The motion
<br />carried.
<br />BILL NO. 98 -79 A BILL APPROPRIATING MONIES FOR PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES
<br />OF THE SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY OF
<br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1980
<br />INCLUDING ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS AND OBLIGATIONS AND FIXING A
<br />TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL TAKE EFFECT.
<br />BILL NO. 99 -79 A BILL LEVYING TAXES AND FIXING THE RATE OF TAXATION FOR THE PURPOSE
<br />OF RAISING REVENUE TO MEET THE NECESSARY EXPENSE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR
<br />ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1980.

<br />He indicated that this was a very good budget, and commended the Controller and his staff. He
<br />said several items that were previously funded out of Revenue Sharing were included in the budges
<br />City Controller, Peter Mullen, offered the following amendments to the budget:
