South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 18, 2008
4. COMMUNICATIONS (CONT.)
Golf Course Owners Assn communication:
understand the importance of volunteer leadership and
am very well versed in industry trends and best
practices. Virtually all the best owners and operators of
golf courses are members of the National Golf Courses
Owners Association, which is the largest trade
association of its kind with local, state and national
chapters and international affiliates representing a
membership of more than 6, 000 facilities.
I have enclosed our association's position statement for
your review as well as a financial spreadsheet that
shows Blackthorns cash flow since opening. Net income
numbers are directly from the Profit and Loss
statements provided by the city and the debt service
figures come directly from the enclosed amortization
table.
On behalf of the Indiana Golf Course Owners
Association as Vice President, I am addressing these
issues to you in your capacity as the Chair of the
Chamber of Commerce and a member of the
Redevelopment Commission. It is my understanding that
the Chamber is an organization that strives to promote
free enterprise and create a good business environment
for its members and the Redevelopment Commission is
an integral part of overseeing the Blackthorn Golf Club
operations.
I respectfully request that you and the other member of
redevelopment commission support the fiscally
responsible action of not adding any additional
foodservice amenities at Blackthorn Golf Club and
begin the process of selling the facility. Additionally, we
ask that you also consider selling all the cities facilities
that are in direct competition with private enterprise.
7
