The requests are amended to increase the position from part time (25 hours /week) to full time (32 hours /week) in the Salary Ordinance and increase the cost of the position to $29,250 in 2013. The additional $5,000.00 from the General Fund to cover costs of membership in two important, diversity related professional organizations remains unchanged for a total of $34,250 from the General Fund. After further review of responsibilities for the Diversity Compliance Officer, the increase to a 32 hour /week status is required to successfully accomplish the development of Minority and Women Business Enterprise relations with the City procurement process, sustain those same relationships, and to develop operational tools required to monitor and support the entire diversity purchasing initiative. The ordinances (attached) will need to be re- advertised because the dollar amount of the appropriation has increased over the originally advertised sum. The City Administration believes that the amendment and appropriation will help South Bend achieve its goal of increased diversity development in City contracts, and hopes that the Council will approve both Ordinances.
