Reduce Account 213, Travel Expense, to $600.
Reduce Account 363, Other Office Supplies, to $1,200.
Mr. Gene Evans, Executive Secretary of the Civic Planning Association, asked for a justification
of the Secretary II classification. Mrs. Irene Gammon, City Clerk, explained that presently EEA
has filled two positions within her office, and one girl has worked almost entirely in the typing
of ordinances into the official record book. She indicated that, with the passage of the Economic
Development Bond ordinances in the past and the increased volume of ordinances passed by the
Council, the amount of typing is considerable. Mrs. Gammon explained that, when time permits,
this person types summons for Superior Court on traffic violations, the job for which she was
initially hired. Mr. Evans wondered about the increase in the rents. Mrs. Gammon stated that the
rent account is for the rental of the Xerox machine. She indicated that the present machine is
quite old and only puts out six or seven copies per minute. The new Xerox machine proposed to be
rented would put out 20 copies per minute. She indicated that the workload has increased tre-
mendously and, at times, it takes a day and a half of straight copying to prepare for Council
out of revenue sharing; one attorney would be funded by the Water Works and one from Wastewater.
He stated that these positions would be indicated in their appropriate budget. He stated that the
furniture was needed for the legal interns. He stated that the department had two offices and was
in need of desks, furniture and a typewriter. Council President Nemeth stated that the furniture
would be for the new secretary that was cut. He wondered if the furniture could likewise be cut.
Mr. Roemer stated that the furniture amount was for the purchase of the typewriter. Council
President Nemeth felt the office equipment amount should be reduced to zero. Mr. Roemer talked
about positions in his office and stated that typewriters have been borrowed in the past when
