<br />Parent's amendment. Chairman Newburn asked for a roll call vote on Councilman Parent's motion.
<br />The motion lost by a vote of five nays (Councilmen Miller, Taylor, Kopczynski, Horvath and Nemeth)
<br />and four ayes (Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Parent and Newburn).
<br />Councilman Miller then made a motion that the ordinances go to the Council with no recommendation
<br />from the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Councilman Taylor. The motion carried.
<br />Council President Nemeth made a motion that the Committee of the Whole take a recess, seconded by
<br />Councilman Kopczynski. The motion carried, and the Committee of the Whole recessed at 9:00 p.m.
<br />Reconvened at 10:00 p.m.
<br />ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE MAXIMUM SALARIES
<br />AND WAGES OF APPOINTED OFFICERS AND
<br />EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
<br />INDIANA, FOR THE YEAR 1975.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and
<br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Council President Nemeth stated that basically,
<br />and in most cases, the Council had used the following formula in arriving at a decision regarding
<br />the salaries: those employees receiving under $8,000 a year were given a loo increase, and those
<br />employees receiving over $8,000 a year were given an $800 increase. He made a motion to amend the
<br />ordinance as follows:
