REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 24, 1983 <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bills, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Tim Brassell, Fire Chief, made <br />the presentation for the bills. He indicated that in 1980 the South Bend Fire Department <br />started the formation of an Emergency Hazardous Materials Response Team, and team <br />members have accumulated over 1,000 hours of schooling and training. He indicated <br />that in order for the team to become operational, the necessary equipment must be <br />acquired. He indicated the equipment is divided into three categories; personal <br />safety, communication and support equipment, and a vehicle. Council Member Serge <br />made a motion to recommend Bill No. 114 -83 to the Council favorable, seconded by <br />Council Member McGann. The motion carried. Council Member McGann made a motion to <br />recommend Bill No. 115 -83 to the Council favorable, seconded by Council Member Crone. <br />The motion carried. <br />BILL NO. 116 -83 A BILL APPROPRIATING $1,600,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE <br />GRANT FUND COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING <br />TRUST FUND FOR THE 1983 POLICE AND FIRE PENSION COSTS OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Sherrie Petz, Deputy Controller, <br />made the presentation for the bill. She indicated this appropriation would be used to <br />pay pension benefits for retirees in the Police and Fire Pension Funds in 1983. Council <br />Member Serge made a motion to recommend this bill to the Council favorable, seconded <br />by Council Member Crone. The motion carried. <br />BILL NO. 117 -83 A BILL APPROPRIATING $100,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE <br />GRANT FUND COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING <br />TRUST FUND FOR OPERATING COSTS OF THE PARKING GARAGES OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Sherrie Petz, Deputy Controller, <br />made the presentation for the bill. She indicated the appropriation will provide <br />additional funds to supplement the operating budget for the parking garages in 1983. <br />Council Member McGann made a motion to recommend this bill to the Council favorable, <br />seconded by Council Member Serge. The motion carried. <br />BILL NO. 118 -83 <br />A BILL APPROPRIATING $65,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE <br />GRANT FUND COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING <br />TRUST FUND FOR REPAIR OF ISLAND PARK FOR 1983 TO BE ADMINISTERED <br />BY THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. John Leszczynski, Director of <br />Public'Works, made the presentation for the bill. He indicated this appropriation <br />would be used for repairs to Island Park. He indicated the construction work would <br />stop the wall movement and repair the walkways. Council Member Serge made a motion <br />to recommend this bill to the Council favorable, seconded by Council Member Beck. <br />The motion carried. <br />There being no further business to come <br />Member McGann made a motion to rise and <br />Member Szymkowiak.
