<br />ORDINANCE NO. 6997 -81 AN ORDINANCE REQUESTING VACATION OF VARIOUS PUBLIC RIGHT -OF -WAY
<br />IN THE MONROE- SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT AREA AND GEORGE AVENUE OF
<br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
<br />This bill had second reading. Council Member Taylor made a motion to amend the bill,
<br />as amended in the Committee of ,the Whole, seconded by Council Member Dombrowski. The
<br />motion carried. Council Member Serge made a motion to pass the bill, seconded by
<br />Council Member Taylor. The bill passed by a roll call vote of nine ayes.
<br />ORDINANCE NO. 6998 -81 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA AMENDING VARIOUS SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 4 OF THE
<br />MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, COMMONLY KNOWN AS
<br />LICENSES.
<br />This bill had second reading. Council Member Taylor made a motion to amend the bill,
<br />as amended in the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Council Member Dombrowski. The
<br />motion carried. Council Member Taylor made a motion to pass the bill, seconded by
<br />Council Member Beck. The bill passed by a roll call vote of nine ayes.
<br />RESOLUTION
<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA, URGING THE SOUTH.BEND COMMUNITY SCHOOL.
<br />CORPORATION TO KEEP THE TUTT BRANCH OF THE SOUTH BEND PUBLIC
<br />LIBRARY SYSTEM NEAR ITS PRESENT LOCATION AT 2002 MIAMI
<br />STREET.
<br />A public hearing was held on the resolution. Council Member Beck indicated that the
<br />Virginia Tutt Library has been very successful. She indicated is within easy access
<br />of four schools. She indicated that the proposed new location would force individuals
<br />to use automobiles to reach the library thereby eliminating many of the present users
<br />of this branch. She indicated the neighborhood has a valid concern. Council President
<br />McGann indicated it was a majority consensus of the Council that this resolution be
<br />stricken, since the Common Council has no control over the Library Board. Katheryn
<br />Brookins, 1707 LaSalle, Dennis Moran, 711 W. Colfax, John Walker, 907 E. Dayton, Mike
<br />McFarland, 1733 O'Brien, Ann Fisher, 902 E. Dubail; spoke in favor of the passage of
<br />this resolution. Council Member Taylor made a motion to strike this resolution,
<br />seconded by Council member Beck. The motion carried and the resolution was stricken
<br />from the record.
<br />RESOLUTION NO. 921 -81 AN INDUCEMENT RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
<br />OF SOUTH LBEND, INDIANA: RELATING TO: MECHANICS LAUNDRY AND
<br />SUPPLY, INC. PROJECT.
<br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, Indiana, (the "issuer "), is authorized by IC
<br />36 -7 -12, (the "Act "), to issue revenue bonds for the financing of economic development
<br />facilities, the funds from said financing to be used for the acquisition and equipping
<br />of said facilities to be either sold or leased to a company_or directly owned by a
<br />company; and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mechanics Laundry & Supply, Inc. of Indiana, an Indiana Corporation,
<br />(the "Applicant "), has advised the South Bend Economic Development Commission, (the
<br />"Commission "), and the Issuer, that it proposes that the Issuer either acquire and
<br />equip an economic development facility and sell or lease the same to the Applicant,
<br />or loan proceeds of an economic development financing to the Applicant for the same
<br />said economic development facility, to consist of the acquisition and expansion of a
<br />24,000 square foot industrial laundry facility which supplies all types of rental
<br />merchandise including the real estate on which it is located and the machinery and
<br />equipment to be installed therein, to be located at 835 South Prairie Street, South
<br />Bend, Indiana, on an approximate 2 -acre tract of land ( "Project "); and,
<br />WHEREAS, the diversification of industry and increase in job opportunities, (23
<br />new jobs), to be achieved by the acquisition and equipping of the Project will be of
<br />public benefit to the health, safety and general welfare of the Issuer and its citizens;
<br />and,
<br />WHEREAS, having received the advice of the South Bend Economic Development Commissi
<br />it would appear that the finaning of the Project would be of,public benefit,to the
<br />health, safety and genral welfare of the Issuer and its citizens; and
<br />WHEREAS, the acquisition of the facility will not have an adverse competitive
<br />effect on any similar facility already constructed or operating in South Bend, Indiana;
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Councilof the City of South Bend as
<br />follows:
<br />1. The Common Council of the City of South Bend finds, determines, ratifies and
<br />confirms that the promotion of diversification of economic development and job opportuniti
<br />in and near South Bend, Indinaa, is desirable to preserve the health, safety and
<br />general welfare of the citizens of the Issuer; and that it is in the public interest
<br />that the Commission and the Issuer take such action as they lawfully may to encourage
<br />economic development, diversification of industry and promotion of job opportunities
<br />in and near the Issuer.
