Department of Public Parks <br />Administration Building <br />St. Louis Boulevard at Wayne Street <br />South Bend, Indiana 46617 <br />PHONE: (219) 284 -9401 <br />August 9, 1978 <br />Mr. Roger Parent, President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />County -City Building <br />227 West Jefferson Boulevard <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Dear Mr. Parent: <br />The Department of Public Parks is requesting the Common Council to <br />approve an ordinance to appropriate $111,000.00 from the General <br />Park Fund to various accounts in the park maintenance budget. <br />Major increases are for insurance $32,000.00 caused by higher than <br />anticipated insurance premiums; $20,000.00 for a much needed garbage <br />compactor. <br />The Park Department is presently using dump trucks which are very <br />difficult to load and have no permanent cover over the garbage and <br />trash. Ten thousand dollars for increased electrical current caused <br />by underbudgeting. <br />The shortages in the other accounts were caused by increased costs <br />and underbudgeting in the 1978 budget. <br />There is a surplus in the General Park Fund because of savings in the <br />1977 budget (over $98,000.00) and higher than anticipated revenue <br />from our park and recreation facilities, thus, leaving a balance to <br />start January 1, 1978 of approximately $141,000.00. <br />Very truly yours, <br />DEPARTMENT OF P LIC PARKS <br />J es R. eit , <br />uuerintendent <br />JRS:kb <br />
