This
request was made by the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.
Oliver Davis called upon Pastor Ricardo Taylor to make the case. Pastor Taylor said over the years his
church has grown from 35 to 1,200 members. To accommodate this growth a new church and
meeting /education center was to be constructed. To that end, land was assembled by purchasing and
demolishing derelict structures. The alley requested to be vacated was amongst these parcels.
Mike Mecham City Engineer had approved the petition to vacate. He has made a follow -up trip to the
site in response to a citizen's concern about limiting access to his property. The engineer said access
would not be hindered.
On a motion by Gavin Ferlic seconded by Valerie Schey and supported by all, the bill was sent to full
Council with a favorable recommendation.
Council Attorney Kathy Cekanski - Farrand asked that bill 18 -13 addressing water table issues be
continued until June 10, 2013. She reported progress working with the City to amend the bill. Valerie
Schey to motion, David Varner seconded. All agreed.
Oliver Davis adjourned at 4:12 P.M.
Public Works & Property Vacation, Chairperson
