REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 28, 1985 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, January 28, 1985, at 7:00 <br />s <br />p.m. The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Braboy, Puzzello, <br />Taylor, Zakrzewski, Crone, Paszek, Voorde and <br />Beck <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub - committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would <br />respectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the January 14, meeting of <br />the Council and found them correct. <br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />Beverlie J. Beck <br />Ann Puzzello <br />Thomas Zakrzewski <br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the January 14, meeting of <br />the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Taylor. The <br />motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1251 -85 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, URGING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT TRANSPO <br />TO RECONSIDER THE LOCATION OF THEIR MAJOR BUS TERMINAL <br />LOCATION IN DOWNTOWN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />WHEREAS, for the past several years the location of a downtown terminal for <br />TRANSPO has been debated; and <br />WHEREAS, several site locations have been proposed; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council believes that a centrally location terminal in the <br />core of the downtown area of South Bend would best serve the needs of those using <br />TRANSPO services; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council believes that the needs of the users should be <br />paramount in making a final decision for a new downtown location. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The South Bend Common Council recommends to the Board of Directors <br />of TRANSPO to consider the benefits and needs of the riders in locating a downtown <br />terminal in the core of the downtown area, rather than several blocks away. <br />SECTION II. The Council believes that if bus drivers enclosures need to be <br />constructed and maintained that those needs may be separate and distinct of the <br />needs of the riders as far as location, and that the best interests of trying to <br />serve the riders should not be minimized. <br />SECTION III. The Council requests the City Clerk to send a copy of this <br />resolution to the Board of Directors of TRANSPO, upon adoption. <br />SECTION IV. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Beverlie J. Beck <br />Member of the Common Council <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Council Member Puzzello <br />read the resolution. Several Council Members indicated they were receiving calls <br />about the relocation of this terminal. Council Member Serge made a motion to adopt <br />this resolution, seconded by Council Member Taylor. The resolution was adopted by a <br />roll call vote of eight ayes and one nay (Council Member Voorde.) <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1252 -85 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING PAULETTE E. CWIDAK OF ADAMS <br />HIGH SCHOOL FOR BEING SELECTED THE TEACHER -OF- THE -YEAR <br />FOR THE STATE OF INDIANA. <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council wishes to publicly commend Paulette E. Cwidak, for <br />being selected the State Teacher -of- the -Year; and <br />
