<br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council
<br />Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting
<br />was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given.
<br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Braboy, Puzzello, Taylor,
<br />Zakrzewski, Crone, Paszak, Voorde and Beck
<br />Absent: None
<br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES
<br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
<br />Your sub - committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would res-
<br />pectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the August 20 and September 10,
<br />1984, meetings of the Council and found them correct.
<br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved.

<br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the August 20 and September
<br />10, 1984, meetings of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council
<br />Member Puzzello. The motion carried.
<br />SPECIAL BUSINESS
<br />Council Member Zakrzewski thanked the firemen and paramedics who attempted to save
<br />his grandfather's life.
<br />Council Member Taylor announced that the Council officers for 1985 would be; Joseph
<br />Serge, Committee of the Whole, Eugenia Braboy, Vice President, and Beverlie Beck,
<br />President.
<br />RESOLUTION NO. 1202 -84
<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING HE VICTORIOUS MISHAWAKA RAFT RACE
<br />TEAM.
<br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, notes that the
<br />City of South Bend hosted the 84th State Conference of the Indiana Association of
<br />Cities and Towns; and
<br />WHEREAS, the IACT Conference was held from September 17th through September
<br />20th, and attracted hundreds of City and Town officials from throughout the State of
<br />Indiana; and
<br />WHEREAS, as a part of the IACT activities, some of the South Bend City Officials
<br />specifically challenged the City of Mishawaka to compete in a raft race down the
<br />newly opened and dedicated East Race; and
<br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council wishes to commend all participants and
<br />specifically: Dorothy "Dottie" Wayne of the Mishawaka Common Council; Jan Opfel, City
<br />Clerk of Mishawaka; Kathie Rogers, Director of Mishwaka's Battell Center; and Harold
<br />Kwiatkowski, Councilmember of Muncie who assisted the victorious Mishawaka Team; and
<br />WHEREAS, the Council also wishes to acknowledge members of the South Bend Team:
<br />Council President Beverlie J. Beck; Councilmember Ann B. Puzzello; and Engineer John
<br />Ferrar, who assisted the South Bend Team as they made a gallant attempt to outdistance
<br />the Mishawaka Team.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of theCity of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, as follows:
<br />SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the
<br />Common Council hereby publicly commends all participants of the Raft Race Teams who
<br />competed during the Indiana Association Cities and Towns conference held in South
<br />Bend, Indiana, on September 18, 1984, and particularly, the winning team from Mishawaka.
<br />SECTION II. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
<br />its passage by the Common Council, and approval by the Mayor.
