East Res.
* Funds are subject to the City Controller's determination of availability; if funds are unavailable, as solely determined by the City Controller,
then the authorization of the expenditure of such funds shall be void and of no effect.
PURPOSE OF REQUEST:
This request is to fund a portion of the construction costs for the West Washington Mid-Block Crossing
project.
The project will build a permanent mid-block crossing on Washington Street by the Civil Rights Heritage
Center to facilitate safe pedestrian and bicycle crossings. It will follow the design concept tested in 2024
with the temporary installation at the same location. This area of Washington experiences a high volume of
pedestrian crossings, and the project will significantly improve pedestrian safety.
Staff requests that the Redevelopment Commission approve $90,000 from West Washington TIF for the
project. The remaining funds are anticipated to come from public works.
SPECIFICS:
The project will build a concrete raised crossing for pedestrians and bicyclists as well as bumpouts to
narrow the crossing distance.
______________ ___________Pres/V-Pres
ATTEST: __________ ________Secretary
Date: _____________ _______
APPROVED Not Approved
SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
March 26, 2026
