LARSON-DANIELSON PROPOSAL FOR CMc SERVICES MORRIS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER PARKING GARAGE 17
SAFETY PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICES
Safety is our first priority. It is one of Larson-Danielson’s core
values and a responsibility shared by every member of our team.
Our “Work Safe, Stay Safe” motto was developed to reinforce a
simple idea: safe habits on the jobsite protect our employees
both at work and at home. That philosophy is supported by a
comprehensive 240-page safety manual, continuous training
programs, and oversight from our full-time safety coordinators.
Because we routinely self-perform some of the most physically
demanding scopes of work, we are constantly evaluating risks
and adjusting our safety practices. In 2023, we launched our Next
Level Safety initiative to address strain and sprain injuries affecting
an aging construction workforce. Company leadership visited job
sites to discuss ergonomics, safe work practices, and our firm-
wide commitment to protecting every worker.
This has already had an effect:
• 84% reduction in non-subrogated workers’
compensation claim cost over two years
• 35% reduction in recordable incidents in the first year
after Next Level Safety adoption
KEY SAFETY CONTROLS & RESOURCES
• Mandatory Jobsite Safety Analysis (JSA) process; 1,254
JSAs completed in the past year
• Two full-time safety coordinators providing jobsite
oversight, training, and compliance monitoring
• Independent third-party safety and ergonomic evaluations
• Cloud-based mobile safety platform used for JSAs,
inspections, and trend analysis
PROJECT APPLICATION
Larson-Danielson will apply this established safety program and
oversight structure to the Morris Performing Arts Center Parking
Garage project to meet all City of South Bend, state, and federal
safety requirements. Because this project will be constructed in
a dense downtown environment adjacent to a historic theater
and near other active development, careful planning of site
logistics will be essential. We will coordinate closely with the City,
venue operations, and others to manage deliveries, staging, and
work zones. Temporary barriers, clear signage, and controlled
pedestrian routes will be implemented to ensure the safety
of patrons, downtown visitors, and construction personnel
throughout the duration of the project.
