As you know, on August 8, 1977 the Common Council passed an ordinance appropriating $20,000.00 of 1977 CD monies to rehabilitate the Northeast Neighborhood Center. When the project was completed, I received many comments of appreciation from residents in the neighborhood and citizens who use the facility. However, recently it has been brought to our attention that the slate roof has developed some leakage which is causing interior damage to the structure. Since we have already expended $20,000 in rehabilitation to the structure, none of which was for roofing, we certainly do not want to jeopardize those previous improvements nor allow serious roof deteriora- tion to occur. A professional roofing expert, specializing in slate and tile repairs, inspected the roof of the Northeast Center. He has assured us that once these repairs are made, the roof should be in satisfactory condition for approximately twenty to thirty years provided it is maintained properly.
